Job Title: Coating Supervisor
Job Description
The Coating Supervisor oversees all activities within the coating department for an assigned shift, leading a team of approximately 18 employees in a 24/7, three-shift manufacturing operation. This role coordinates paint line, powder coating, e-coating, pretreatment, and touch-up painting processes to meet production schedules and customer delivery requirements. The Coating Supervisor ensures quality standards are consistently met, partners closely with Quality teams, and drives department efficiency, process improvements, and operational excellence while maintaining a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
Supervise all coating department activities for the assigned shift, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
Lead, direct, and support approximately 18 coatings employees across a three-shift operation.
Coordinate paint line, powder coating, e-coating, pretreatment, and touch-up painting activities to meet production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
Oversee paint lines, paint booths, and coating personnel to maintain consistent workflow and productivity.
Monitor quality standards and collaborate closely with Quality teams to maintain compliance with manufacturing and regulatory requirements.
Develop employees through coaching, training, performance management, and accountability to build a high-performing team.
Drive department efficiency and continuous process improvements focused on quality, throughput, and operational excellence.
Troubleshoot coating defects, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
Ensure adherence to all company safety procedures and maintain a safe, organized work environment.
Plan manpower needs, schedule employees, and manage workforce development to support production demands.
Multitask and prioritize activities in a fast-paced production environment to meet deadlines and delivery commitments.
Use computers and manufacturing systems to track production, monitor performance, and support reporting requirements.
Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization to align operations and support company initiatives.
Travel periodically for training or company initiatives if required.
Essential Skills
Hands-on knowledge of both e-coating and powder coating operations.
Experience overseeing paint lines, paint booths, and coating personnel in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to lead employees across multiple shifts and consistently meet production deadlines.
Strong understanding of pretreatment systems and chemical processes associated with industrial coatings.
Proven experience troubleshooting coating defects and implementing corrective actions.
Ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and throughput.
Knowledge of manufacturing quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Prior supervisory or team leadership experience in manufacturing.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced production environment.
Comfort using computers and manufacturing systems to support production and reporting.
Experience with manpower planning, scheduling, and workforce development.
Strong attention to quality, detail, and process control.
Ability to travel periodically for training or company initiatives if required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Demonstrated leadership capabilities in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
Familiarity with industrial paints, powder coating systems, pretreatment chemicals, and coating equipment.
Comfort working in a 24/7 operation with multiple shifts.
Ability to balance office responsibilities with hands-on production floor oversight.

Work Environment
The role is based in a manufacturing facility with approximately 100 employees operating on a 24/7 schedule across multiple shifts. The coatings department consists of around 18 employees, and supervisors are expected to spend significant time on the production floor while also handling office-based tasks. The environment combines office work with hands-on manufacturing oversight and involves regular exposure to industrial paints, powder coating systems, pretreatment chemicals, and coating equipment. The production setting is fast-paced, with a strong focus on quality, throughput, and on-time delivery. Initial workload may require work weeks exceeding 50 hours to support operational needs and departmental performance.
