Role summary:
The Staff Software Engineer will lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role requires ownership of the full software lifecycle, ensuring quality through system design reviews and adherence to cloud-native architecture principles. The engineer will collaborate across teams to translate complex requirements into actionable solutions, mentor peers, and drive continuous improvement in engineering practices. About the team:
The IPT team develops and supports platforms for GNFR sourcing, contracting, and procurement using Agile methodology. They deliver scalable, high-quality software solutions aligned with business and technical goals. The team collaborates to analyze requirements, design software, and implement efficient, secure code while maintaining performance standards. Emphasizing continuous improvement, members apply project management and software architecture expertise to drive innovation. By fostering strong stakeholder partnerships and adhering to best practices, the IPT team plays a vital role in Walmart's operational excellence and commitment to reliable technology platforms.
What you'll do:
Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and machine learning frameworks aligned with roadmap priorities.
Lead full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
Conduct system design reviews to validate quality and alignment with architectural standards.
Build AI-driven applications integrating machine learning components for automation and intelligent features.
Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering best practices.
Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements.
Drive continuous improvement through data-driven decision making and innovation.
What you'll bring:
Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to build scalable and resilient systems.
Strong experience in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to deliver maintainable and modular solutions.
Proficiency in multiple programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java, Rust, and C++ for AI/ML integration and platform development.
Demonstrated ability to lead full software development lifecycle activities including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
Skilled in data-driven decision making to define metrics, optimize processes, and ensure engineering excellence.
Experience mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions to promote technical growth and sustainability.
Effective collaboration and communication skills to engage cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
