Summary The Health Technician works as a member of the CBOC Primary Care Service, under the guidance of the CBOC Nurse Manager. The CBOC Primary Care Service provides comprehensive outpatient services to eligible veterans. Responsibilities Health Technician works as a member of the CBOC Primary Care Service, under the guidance of the CBOC Nurse Manager. The CBOC Primary Care Service provides comprehensive outpatient services to eligible veterans. The clinics provide comprehensive outpatient care to patients for preventative/routine care, urgent/chronic medical conditions, change in mental status and or functional decline. The Health Technician assists medical and nursing staff through technical, specialized or support services for the diagnosing or treatment of patient illnesses or medical conditions. The Health Technician will preferably have at least 2 years of experience with military training or private sector primary care experience. The incumbent adheres to all Joint Commission and facility regulations, policies and procedures. The health technician must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS). Duties include but are not limited to: Assists with patient check in, including obtaining and recording demographic data, vital signs, height, weight, and screening for chief complaint, brief history and measurements for specific age groups. Performs 12 lead ECGs per order. Performs selected treatments and procedures using aseptic technique when appropriate to assist such as measures oxygen levels through pulse oximetry and assisting nursing with dressings changes. Prepares patient and treatment area and assists health care professionals with positioning and set up. Collects, labels, and processes a variety of specimens. Recognizes and responds to emergency situations by getting assistance, following clinical protocols, calling 911 and performing basic life support protocols (BLS credentialed) until assistance arrives. May be required to travel to other Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) to support Primary Care clinics. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. OR, Education: successfully completed one (1) year of graduate education or internship directly related to the position at the next lower grade level. If that number cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours will be considered an academic year of graduate study.
