This phlebotomist position combines high-volume blood collection with specimen processing and exceptional customer service in a busy patient service center and float environment. The role focuses primarily on blood draws while also performing centrifuging, specimen splitting, data entry, and order entry using the Touch system. The phlebotomist supports patients across the age spectrum, including pediatric, adult, geriatric, and oncology patients, and must be comfortable working in a fast-paced setting and traveling between multiple sites.
Responsibilities
Perform high-quality venipuncture and blood draws, completing up to 30 to 40 draws per day in a busy patient service center and walk-in lab.
Collect blood specimens from a wide range of patients, including pediatrics, adults, geriatrics, and cancer patients, while providing compassionate and professional patient care.
Process specimens by centrifuging and splitting samples according to established procedures to ensure accurate and timely laboratory testing.
Enter and manage patient orders and test information directly into the Touch system, maintaining accurate and complete medical records and data entry.
Handle front desk responsibilities after initial observation training, including patient check-in and coordination of walk-in lab services.
Provide a high level of customer service by communicating clearly, addressing patient questions, and ensuring a positive experience for all visitors.
Follow all safety, quality, and infection control protocols while handling specimens and interacting with patients and staff.
Adapt quickly to changing workloads and priorities in a fast-paced environment, maintaining accuracy and efficiency throughout the day.
Float between multiple locations within the designated region, providing consistent phlebotomy and processing support wherever assigned.
Participate fully in training, including completing approximately 25 observation collections and learning entering and processing procedures during the structured training program.
Essential Skills
Phlebotomy experience with demonstrated ability to perform venipuncture and blood draws confidently and accurately.
Phlebotomy certification.
Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques, including venipuncture and blood specimen collection from diverse patient populations.
Experience with data entry and maintaining accurate medical records.
Ability to operate and use a centrifuge for specimen processing.
Strong customer service skills with a focus on patient care and a positive patient experience.
Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with high patient volumes.
Willingness and ability to float between locations from Newport Beach to Manhattan Beach as needed.
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to different workflows and locations.
Availability to work 8-hour shifts within a time window between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., depending on site schedules.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience gained through an externship, particularly in a hospital setting, is helpful.
Previous experience working with geriatric patients is beneficial.
Exposure to oncology or cancer patient populations is an advantage.
Comfort working in a high-volume patient service center that sees approximately 170 to 200 patients per day.
Willingness to attend a structured training program, including a second week of training focused on entering and processing procedures that requires a 40-hour work week.
Flexibility to travel to training locations such as Wildomar, Tustin, and Los Angeles, with hotel accommodations available if required during training.

Work Environment
The position is hubbed in Fountain Valley and functions as a float role, traveling between patient service centers and walk-in labs located from Manhattan Beach to Newport Beach. The work environment is a busy outpatient laboratory setting where the patient service center sees approximately 170 to 200 patients daily, and the phlebotomist may perform 30 to 40 blood draws per day. The role involves frequent interaction with patients of all ages, including pediatric, adult, geriatric, and cancer patients, in a clinical setting focused on diagnostics and laboratory services. The phlebotomist works 8-hour shifts, with start and end times varying between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. depending on the specific site's operating hours. The environment requires regular use of phlebotomy equipment, including needles, collection tubes, and centrifuges, as well as computer systems such as the Touch system for order entry and data management. Training includes approximately 25 observation collections and front desk training, followed by a dedicated second week focused on entering and processing procedures, conducted as a 40-hour work week at designated training locations. The dress code aligns with a professional clinical setting, with attire appropriate for direct patient care and laboratory work.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.11 - $23.11/hr.
