Job Title: Animal Laboratory Technician - Pest Control Product DevelopmentJob Description
This role supports research and development activities in an animal laboratory focused on pest control products. The Animal Laboratory Technician cares for laboratory rodents, conducts product performance and efficacy testing, assists with new product formulation and scale-up, and maintains accurate study documentation in compliance with laboratory SOPs, GLPs, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
Provide daily care for laboratory mice and rats, including feeding, watering, and monitoring their health and behavior.
Oversee and execute the cleaning and sanitation of all equipment and materials associated with rodent care.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized animal laboratory and main laboratory area.
Follow all animal laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), and related guidelines at all times.
Evaluate new and alternative raw materials to improve existing pest control products and to support the development of new products.
Investigate and test new product formulations, packaging, and novel pest control devices under defined protocols.
Create formula mixing sheets and produce pilot-scale batches for laboratory testing.
Conduct non-GLP palatability and efficacy studies on pilot formulations and record results accurately.
Organize and conduct standard EPA product performance testing in accordance with study protocols, SOPs, and GLP requirements.
Ensure all phases of assigned studies are conducted according to protocol and that complete, accurate records are maintained.
Inform the R&D Manager immediately of any deviations from SOPs or study protocols and document these deviations as required.
Assist in drafting new study protocols and experimental plans for both lab and field support studies.
Compile, analyze, and interpret study results and assist in preparing final reports for internal records and regulatory submissions.
Communicate in a timely manner all relevant information regarding formulations, project status, raw material research, and study results to the R&D Manager and other departments as directed.
Ensure all logs for test substances, samples, equipment calibration and maintenance, room records, and other study documents are current, accurate, and properly filed.
Ensure all samples are correctly labeled, identified, stored, and dispatched according to GLPs and study requirements.
Prepare and package samples of pilot mixes and finished goods for submission to external third-party laboratories.
Lead the scale-up process from pilot laboratory batches to production-sized batches, coordinating closely with relevant teams.
Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all laboratory chemicals and associated Safety Data Sheets (SDSs).
Maintain the non-GLP project database and physical file cabinet, including documentation for both laboratory and field support studies.
Essential Skills
Degree in Biology, Microbiology, or a closely related scientific discipline.
Hands-on experience with handling mice and rats, including routine animal care and monitoring.
Demonstrated animal handling skills in a laboratory or research setting.
Ability to follow and apply laboratory SOPs, GLPs, and regulatory guidelines.
Strong attention to detail in recordkeeping, sample labeling, and data entry.
Capability to conduct laboratory experiments, including formulation preparation and basic performance testing.
Effective written and verbal communication skills to report study progress and results.
Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in animal and main laboratory areas.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with pest control products or related formulations.
Familiarity with EPA product performance testing requirements and procedures.
Experience creating formula mixing sheets and producing pilot-scale batches.
Background in conducting palatability and efficacy studies, even in a non-GLP @context.
Experience preparing samples and coordinating submissions to third-party laboratories.
Exposure to scaling up formulations from pilot laboratory batches to production-scale batches.
Experience maintaining laboratory inventories and managing Safety Data Sheets (SDSs).
Prior experience maintaining study databases and organized filing systems for lab and field studies.
Work Environment
The role is based primarily in an animal laboratory where mice and rats are housed and cared for, as well as in a main laboratory area where formulation and product testing are conducted. The position also involves time in an office setting for data analysis, documentation, and reporting. Work is performed on a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, with a start time between 7:00 am and 8:00 am, for a standard 40-hour workweek. Occasional additional work of an hour or two may be required when studies are in progress. The environment includes regular interaction with laboratory animals, handling of chemicals and test substances, and use of standard laboratory equipment, all within a structured, procedure-driven setting that emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and compliance with safety and documentation standards.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50000.00 - $75000.00/yr.
This company offers health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, and a 401k match of $0.75 for every $1.00 up to 6%. They offer 80 hours of PTO prorated the first year based on date of hire, then a full 80 hours in year two (2027), and then 120 hours in year three (2028). They also have a profit sharing potential of up to 15% each year based on overall salary for the year. They also offer 12 holidays.
