THE POSITION AND THE DEPARTMENT
Under general supervision/procedural control, this Central Services Administrative Specialist position provides mailroom services for Normandale Community College and assists in placing orders and maintaining the college's general supply inventory. This position also assists in receiving and shipping of all merchandise and supplies for Normandale Community College. This position also assists other departments during busy times, including Groundskeeping and the Textbook Depot.
This position will actively advance the college's strategic goals, including to achieve equity in educational outcomes and to support a culturally responsive and service-oriented culture, through individual and departmental efforts.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum:
The physical demands of this position require the ability to move continuously throughout all levels of the campus buildings while delivering mail and shipments to campus offices.
Requires the ability to move/lift package deliveries and outgoing shipments (up to 50 pounds)
Ability to provide quality customer service using good human relations skills to interact with others (common courtesy, tact, interest in positive problem resolution, empathy and logical organization of ideas).
Math skills sufficient to perform basic calculations to review and process supply orders.
Typing/keyboarding skills sufficient to perform basic typing tasks with speed and accuracy.
Data entry and database management skills sufficient to accurately enter and maintain information in logs and databases (ex. Microsoft Excel).
Oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to problem solve and find acceptable solutions when needed.
Ability to physically stand, retrieve deliveries of mail/boxes that may weigh up to 50 lbs., and sort mail prior to delivery.
Ability to learn to use a powered pallet jack and forklift to move pallets.
Preferred:
Experience working in a shipping warehouse and/or mailroom in a large business or organization.
Ability to explain general postage and shipping policies, standards, rules, regulations to customers.
Ability to learn to operate basic Central Services equipment such as postage machines, pallet jack and forklift.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, employees and the general public.
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of private information according to laws, rules, policies and procedures.
Background and experience working with various diverse backgrounds, populations, ages, races and ethnicities with the ability to demonstrate sensitivity to these diverse needs and concerns.
