This role combines hands-on work on the shop floor with detailed mechanical design, documentation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable, safe, and standards-compliant equipment.
Responsibilities
Work collaboratively in a team environment to deliver high-quality mechanical designs for production equipment.
Communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues, production staff, customers, and suppliers to align on requirements and design intent.
Evaluate mechanical component capabilities and apply them appropriately to meet design specifications and performance requirements.
Create design layouts, assembly drawings, and detailed part drawings using appropriate CAD tools.
Ensure all design work complies with applicable local, federal, and international standards and industry best practices.
Work hands-on in the shop to assist or lead production personnel during assembly, integration, and testing of machinery.
Apply knowledge of motors, servos, linear actuators, brakes, pneumatics, and related components in the design and troubleshooting of equipment.
Verify machine function against specifications and performance criteria, making adjustments as needed.
Use measuring equipment to inspect components and verify their function and conformance to design requirements.
Perform repairs and troubleshoot mechanical issues on machinery to restore or improve performance.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following established procedures, rules, and regulations.
Document parts lists, engineering change orders, and drawing files in an organized and accurate manner.
Capture and document changes made on the shop floor and update documentation to produce accurate "as-built" assembly drawings.
Maintain project schedules and manage time effectively to meet milestones and delivery dates.
Set up, run, and debug machinery for initial startup and commissioning, resolving mechanical issues that arise.
Interface with customers and other suppliers to ensure that new machinery integrates and functions properly with existing equipment and systems.
Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose issues and optimize designs.
Use computer tools effectively for design, documentation, communication, and data management.
Essential Skills
BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent mechanical engineering experience.
5-10 years minimum experience as a mechanical engineer for production equipment.
Proven experience with design and development of new machinery based on customer specifications.
Strong mechanical design skills, including machine design and component selection.
Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D mechanical design software.
Hands-on experience with mechanical systems involving motors, servos, linear actuators, brakes, and pneumatics.
Ability to create detailed layouts, assembly drawings, and part drawings suitable for manufacturing.
Ability to ensure designs comply with relevant local, federal, and international standards.
Effective computer skills for engineering design, documentation, and communication.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities in a mechanical engineering @context.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in machine design for production environments, including integration with existing systems.
Experience documenting parts lists, change orders, and maintaining organized drawing files.
Ability to support shop floor activities, including assembly, testing, and debugging of machinery.
Familiarity with using measuring equipment for inspection and verification of component and machine performance.
Work Environment
The role involves a blend of office-based design work and hands-on activities on the shop floor. You will regularly use CAD software, such as SolidWorks, and standard office and engineering computer tools to create and manage mechanical designs and documentation. On the shop floor, you will work around production machinery that incorporates motors, servos, linear actuators, brakes, pneumatics, and related components, participating in assembly, setup, testing, and debugging. The position requires adherence to established safety procedures, rules, and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
