?
Job Description
This role focuses on the design, analysis, and support of medium and low voltage electrical power generation, distribution, and microgrid systems using tools such as ETAP and SKM. The Power Systems Engineer will lead complex power system studies, develop technical documentation, and provide engineering support for power delivery and power generation projects across applications such as utilities, data centers, and microgrids. The position requires a seasoned electrical engineer with extensive experience in power systems engineering, protection and controls, and power distribution.
Responsibilities
Design and review medium and low voltage electrical power generation, distribution, and microgrid systems, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
Perform and review detailed electrical power system studies, including short circuit, arc flash, coordination, load flow, grounding, harmonics, fault, and transient studies using ETAP and SKM.
Prepare comprehensive electrical documentation such as study reports, area classifications, single line diagrams, electrical bills of materials (BOMs), and drawings that support project design and execution.
Develop and maintain technical documentation related to electrical systems, including design standards, calculations, schematics, and system configurations.
Support the design of medium voltage power generation systems, including associated distribution line design and integration with power distribution networks.
Develop relay logic, electrical protection, and coordination schemes to ensure proper system protection and reliability.
Program digital multifunction relays and configure protection and control schemes for power distribution and generation systems.
Support power generation controls and automation, including integration with power distribution and substation systems.
Provide engineering support to other departments as needed, offering expertise on power systems, power delivery, and electrical design issues.
Contribute to the design and development of assets and products for end customers, including solutions for utilities, data centers, and microgrids.
Prepare reports and documentation associated with electrical system studies and ensure they meet project and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure power distribution, substation connections, and grid resiliency requirements are met.
Ensure all designs and analyses align with best practices in power systems engineering, safety standards, and industry codes.
Essential Skills
12+ years of electrical engineering experience with a focus on power systems.
10+ years of experience working as a power systems engineer or electrical engineer in power delivery or related fields.
5+ years of hands-on experience using ETAP and/or SKM for power system analysis and studies.
Proven experience designing and supporting medium voltage power generation systems, including distribution line design.
Experience supporting distribution and substation connections within power delivery projects.
Strong experience in power distribution, including previous experience with power distribution projects or RAAS (remote as a service) suppliers or similar environments.
Proficiency in performing and interpreting short circuit, arc flash, coordination, load flow, grounding, harmonics, fault, and transient studies.
Experience with power generation controls and automation, including integration with power distribution systems.
Experience programming digital multifunction relays and configuring protection schemes.
Experience developing relay logic, electrical protection, and coordination schemes for power systems.
