Job Title: Supply Chain EngineerJob Description
The Supply Chain Engineer is responsible for achieving facility supply chain performance targets, including inventory reduction, increased inventory turns, and improved order-to-delivery results. This role leads the development and implementation of the Plan for Every Part, pull material replenishment, and lean material flow plans to improve throughput efficiency in a manufacturing environment. The engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to design and deploy lean systems, optimize material presentation to production lines, and remove supply chain constraints across value streams.
Responsibilities
Achieve corporate supply chain performance targets focused on inventory reduction, increased inventory turns, improved order-to-delivery time, and supply chain assessment results for the facility.
Lead facility efforts to develop and implement the Plan for Every Part and pull replenishment methods, ensuring qualified parts meet annual corporate targets for pull and in-plan coverage.
Define, present, and continuously improve methods of supplying parts and components to the production line, ensuring efficient and reliable material presentation at the point of use.
Deploy the Supply Chain Planning Process as a key team member, developing lean material flow plans for the facility, including potential changes to factory floor layout and material presentation.
Gather and analyze data on facility demand and demand variability for each production part over daily demand buckets for 120 workdays.
Collect and analyze data on supplier shipping performance and variability for each part number, including both time and quantity dimensions.
Develop material flow plans for all material coming into the facility for production, ensuring alignment with lean principles and throughput efficiency goals.
Review, analyze, and cleanse supply chain and material data prior to migrating it into the designated web tools and systems.
Lead the work of Supply Chain Planning Analysts in documenting data into the Plan for Every Part web tool and ensuring data integrity.
Create and maintain a site-level flow map for all parts used in production, ensuring it accurately reflects current material flows and value streams.
Enable and coach facility employees to use standard templates and web tools to load, maintain, and update Plan for Every Part data.
Provide reports, insights, and information from supply chain planning tools to facility stakeholders who rely on this data for decision-making.
Perform physical, tactical work across multiple functions to implement the supply chain planning process and establish a Plan for Every Part for every value stream in the facility.
Direct and guide Supply Chain Planning Analysts and other team members during deployment of supply chain processes and material flow improvements.
Work on the production floor among production employees with minimal disruption to their workload while leading process deployment and improvement activities.
Execute physical, tactical initiatives across multiple functions to achieve MQ or similar certifications for value streams.
Identify, reduce, and eliminate supply chain constraints within value streams by collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Apply complex lean concepts, tools, and CPS supply chain principles to design and deploy pull replenishment systems, material flow improvements, and throughput efficiency enhancements.
Use 6 Sigma project management principles to structure, manage, and sustain supply chain improvement projects.
Collaborate daily with diverse, multi-functional teams, leveraging strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to drive common supply chain processes across departments.
Essential Skills
Proven ability to achieve corporate supply chain performance targets, including improvements in order-to-delivery time, inventory levels, inventory turns, MQ certification requirements, and supply chain assessments at a facility level.
Experience and knowledge of complex lean concepts and tools, particularly in manufacturing and supply chain environments.
Experience and knowledge of CPS supply chain principles, especially those applied to pull replenishment using material replenishment tools and processes, supply chain planning analytical tools, material flow, and throughput efficiency.
Strong understanding of common supply chain systems and their application in a manufacturing setting.
Knowledge of and/or experience deploying 6 Sigma project management principles in supply chain or operations projects.
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to effectively lead supply chain improvements, optimize the use of available resources, and fulfill responsibilities for leading people.
Strong collaborative, interpersonal, and negotiation skills to drive common supply chain processes across multiple departments within a business division.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to creatively solve complex supply chain and material flow problems.
Ability to design and deploy lean systems in a highly productive environment with minimal disruption to daily operational requirements.
Thorough understanding of organizational policies and procedures and solid product knowledge relevant to a manufacturing supply chain.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in supply chain planning, logistics, material flow, supply chain management, and supply chain processes.
Background in data analysis related to inventory, logistics analysis, logistics management, and procurement.
Experience in manufacturing supply chains and production environments.
Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar tools for visualizing layouts and material flows.
Experience using Power BI or similar business intelligence tools for reporting and data visualization.
Ability to coach and train others in the use of supply chain planning templates, web tools, and standard processes.
Work Environment
This role operates in a manufacturing environment that involves working around large industrial machines and production equipment. The Supply Chain Engineer spends time both in office settings analyzing data and on the factory floor implementing material flow plans and observing production processes. Daily interaction with cross-functional and production teams is expected, and the work includes hands-on, physical, and tactical activities to implement supply chain planning processes and lean systems. The environment is fast-paced and highly productive, requiring careful coordination to implement changes with minimal disruption to daily operations. Standard manufacturing safety practices and appropriate attire for working near large machines and on the production floor apply.
