Job Title: MIG Welder
Job Description
This role focuses on performing high-quality MIG welding and basic fabrication on carbon steel components in a modern, large-scale manufacturing environment. You will interpret mechanical drawings and weld symbols, carry out precise quality checks, and help ensure products meet exact specifications. The position also involves collaborating with other welders, mentoring less experienced team members, and contributing to continuous improvement in weld quality and efficiency.
Responsibilities
Interpret mechanical and engineering drawings, including weld symbols, to understand job requirements and specifications.
Perform MIG welding on carbon steel parts and assemblies in accordance with mechanical drawings and work instructions.
Carry out basic fit-up of products to mechanical drawings with assistance when needed to ensure correct alignment and dimensions.
Complete welding of small products independently with no intervention, ensuring consistent quality and accuracy.
Coordinate with other welders during the fabrication of larger or more complex products to maintain workflow and quality standards.
Perform quality checks using appropriate gauges such as calipers and dial indicators to verify dimensions and tolerances.
Design and build simple jigs and fixtures for multiple-piece tasks or as needed to improve efficiency and repeatability.
Use hand and power tools, including grinders and related equipment, to prepare, weld, and finish parts as required.
Mentor entry-level welders on welding techniques, safe work practices, and quality control standards.
Read and use tape measures accurately to within 1/16 inch to lay out, measure, and verify parts.
Apply basic math skills to calculate measurements, convert decimals to fractions and vice versa, and confirm part dimensions.
Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Lift, move, and position materials and components, frequently handling loads up to 100 pounds as part of daily duties.
Essential Skills
Over 2 years of MIG welding experience, preferably 2-3 years, working with carbon steel.
Proficiency in MIG welding on carbon steel components, including structural and mild steel applications.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, work instructions, and engineering drawings, including weld symbols.
Experience with basic fit-up and fabrication of welded assemblies.
Competence using measurement tools such as tape measures, calipers, and dial indicators.
Ability to read a tape measure accurately to within 1/16 inch.
Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Ability to convert decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals.
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Post-high school welding certification or related technical training.
Physical ability to stand, walk, crouch, kneel, reach with hands and arms, and frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Ownership of required personal hand tools for welding and fabrication tasks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with hand fabrication of metal components and structures.
Experience in robotic welding operations or willingness to work around robotic welding systems.
Familiarity with TIG welding, flux core welding, stick welding, and arc welding processes.
Experience working with structural steel, sheet metal, mild steel, and carbon steel in a production environment.
Ability to perform grinding and finishing operations safely and efficiently.
Comfort working with wire feed welding equipment and related shop tools.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds.
Ability to collaborate effectively with a team and communicate clearly on the shop floor.
Interest in mentoring and supporting less experienced welders.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $39.80/hr.
