Business Overview

The Herald, Inc. is one of the largest sheet-fed printers in the state of Ohio. We also have a large digital press department and were a leader in the early development of digital printing in Ohio. The Herald Inc. is one of the oldest continuously operating printers in the Midwest. Our humble beginnings date back to February 1881 as a small weekly newspaper, which we still print 50 weeks out of the year. The Herald operates a full-service print facility totaling over 70,000 sq. ft that incorporates Printing (digital and offset), Prepress, Graphic Design, Bindery, Mailing, and Fulfillment

Position Summary

The Sales Representative is responsible for developing and maintaining customer relationships while generating revenue through the sale of commercial printing, direct mail, promotional products, signage, and related services. This position focuses on identifying new business opportunities, understanding customer needs, gathering information to create estimates, and providing exceptional service throughout the sales process.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional with strong communication skills, a customer-focused mindset, and the ability to build long-term business relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prospect and develop new commercial printing accounts through cold calling, networking, referrals, and community engagement.

Maintain and grow existing customer relationships through regular contact and account management.

Meet with customers to assess printing, marketing, mailing, signage, and promotional product needs.

Prepare and present quotes, proposals, and solutions that meet customer objectives and budgets.

Coordinate with customer service, prepress, production, and shipping departments to ensure project success.

Monitor projects from estimate through delivery to ensure customer satisfaction.

Follow up on completed jobs to maintain relationships and identify future opportunities.

Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, sales activities, and opportunities.

Stay informed on industry trends, products, services, and printing technologies.

Qualifications Required

High school diploma or equivalent.

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and email.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Preferred

Knowledge of offset printing, digital printing, direct mail, wide-format graphics, or promotional products preferred but not required.

Previous Sales experience, even if in another industry.

Ability to build trust and develop long-term customer relationships.

Strong problem-solving and consultative selling skills.

Ability to understand customer requirements and recommend effective solutions.

Comfortable discussing pricing, negotiating proposals, and closing sales.

Ability to work collaboratively with internal departments to meet deadlines and quality standards.

Ability to travel regularly and have reliable transportation.
