Job Title: CNC Turning Operator - 2nd Shift - WILLING TO TRAIN!
Job Description
This role operates CNC turning equipment on a modern manufacturing floor that produces camshafts, pushrods, and other engine components for the automotive industry. You will run CNC machines for new and repeat production jobs, interpret engineering drawings, and ensure that all parts meet precise specifications and quality standards.
Responsibilities
Run CNC gear, shaping, lathe, and milling machines for both new and repeat production jobs.
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T to verify part requirements and ensure conformance to specifications.
Load, monitor, and replace cutting tools and inserts according to established procedures.
Inspect tooling for wear and promptly notify setup technicians of any issues.
Assist with first article inspections and perform in-process inspections in line with documented requirements.
Collaborate with setup technicians, engineers, and quality personnel to resolve nonconformances and support root cause analysis.
Maintain accurate inspection sheets, tool lists, and job documentation to support repeatability and traceability.
Load and unload parts and materials during production cycles in a safe and efficient manner.
Monitor machine operation throughout the shift and alert appropriate personnel to abnormalities or alarms.
Follow standardized work instructions and setup sheets provided by setup technicians.
Promote a safe and efficient work environment by adhering to company safety standards and proper machine operation protocols.
Essential Skills
Hands-on CNC operator experience or a strong, demonstrated interest in learning CNC operation.
Ability to perform CNC machine offsets accurately and consistently.
Experience with CNC turning operations, particularly on lathes.
Proficiency in measuring parts using micrometers and calipers.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
Basic understanding of GD&T to verify part requirements and conformance.
Attention to detail and strong commitment to producing quality parts.
Willingness and ability to work 2nd shift (approximately 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience performing CNC setups on lathes and mills.
Ability to make minor program edits on CNC machines.
Previous experience with CNC milling operations.
Familiarity with documenting inspection results and maintaining job records.
Comfort collaborating with setup technicians, engineers, and quality teams to resolve issues.

Work Environment
The role is based in a very clean manufacturing facility that is less than 15 years old, with a heated and air-conditioned building, high ceilings, and well-lit production areas. You will work on CNC lathes, mills, and related equipment during 2nd shift hours (approximately 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.). The environment emphasizes safety, standardized work instructions, and proper machine operation protocols, providing a professional and organized setting for precision machining.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mount Prospect, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
