Bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, mass communication, advertising, journalism, English, creative writing, or a related field.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to write clearly for various audiences and purposes (e.g., marketing texts, personal interest stories, announcements, instructions, etc.)
Experience with copyediting and conforming to brand guidelines and/or style guides
Basic skill in creation and editing of graphics, photography, and video assets, and demonstrated aptitude to learn new software/technology as needed to complete tasks efficiently and effectively.
Excellent project management skills, including the ability to multi-task and collaborate professionally with a variety of stakeholders under tight deadlines.
Demonstrated experience using content management systems ( CMS ) for email communications, social media, and website maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree.
Two years of professional experience in a higher education setting.
Strong understanding of the Texas State University graduate student culture.
Intermediate to advanced expertise in various computer software packages, such as Microsoft Office Suite, GATO , Hootsuite, Canva, MailChimp, Site Improve, Google Analytics, and Adobe Design Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom, and Premiere Pro).
History of professional brand management.
Background in photography or videography for content production.
Experience synthesizing complex material into compelling written narratives.
Job Description
The Marketing and Communications Specialist is a regular, 12-month, full time (100%) staff position reporting directly to the Dean of The Graduate College. The Marketing and Communications Specialist assists in the implementation of a comprehensive college-wide communications plan including publications, electronic newsletters, email communications to new and current students, The Graduate College website, social media, marketing, and publicity. Thus, the position plays a key role in Graduate College marketing, student recruitment, branding, and news dissemination.
Job Duties
Compile, compose, and distribute college-wide communications including electronic newsletters, social media, press releases, human interest stories, reports, and emails conforming to university brand guidelines and driving stakeholder engagement
Develop and maintain content for the Graduate College website, scheduling and discussing updates with stakeholders as appropriate.
Lead the creation and production of Graduate College photography/video projects.
Participate in the planning and marketing of major Graduate College programs, projects, and special events such as receptions, conferences, workshops, annual events, lectures, staff and/or student appreciation events, etc. Examples of associated duties include:
Work with internal stakeholders on communications that align with TXST brand guidelines and The Graduate College voice.
Create marketing materials for publicity.
Attend Graduate College events to generate content and interact with the graduate community.
Generate feature stories for publication by following up on leads, sending outreach emails, conducting interviews, drafting all copy, collaborating with stakeholders, and finalizing stories with appropriate publishers.
Establish and maintain a broad range of campus contacts and interact with a wide variety of stakeholders such as deans, directors, department chairs of academic and administrative units, graduate advisors, faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
Create and manage all graduate program recruiting flyers, collaborating with Marketing and Communications, recruiting personnel, graduate advisors, and others as needed.
Oversee student employees, providing training, direction, development, and assessment as needed.
Work closely with the Division of Marketing and Communications.
Other duties and special projects as assigned.
