The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the Enterprise Data Engineering & Analytics department. The Senior Data Engineer plays a pivotal role in operationalizing critical data and analytics that support digital business initiatives, with a strong focus on data analytics and delivery through the Context Engine. This role contributes to managing business requirements, planning end-to-end analytics solutions, and optimizing delivery to meet institutional needs.
UT MD Anderson is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Senior Data Engineer collaborates across Information Services and institutional leadership to enable secure, governed, and high-quality data solutions. The Senior Data Engineer partners closely with Enterprise Data Engineering & Analytics, Enterprise Development & Integration, and Enterprise Data Science teams to design, build, and deliver end-to-end analytics solutions that improve time-to-solution and data reuse across the enterprise.
The ideal candidate for the Senior Data Engineer role will have a strong background in data engineering and analytics delivery within complex environments, preferably in healthcare or academic settings. A bachelor's degree is required, with a master's degree in business analytics, computer science, information technology, data science, or a related field preferred, along with significant experience designing and delivering governed data pipelines, advanced analytics solutions, and enterprise reporting using modern data platforms and tools.
Minimum salary $123,000 - Midpoint $154,000 - Maximum $185,000 on a 40-hour work week. Work location: Remote within Texas only.

Responsibilities
Data Engineering and End-to-End Solution Delivery
Participate in end-to-end solution delivery to increase information capabilities and realize data value across the institution
Build and integrate data sources and tools across the Context Engine framework, including ingestion, ingress, egress, curation, pipelines, transformation, and modeling
Incorporate integrated data governance processes tracking data provenance, security, data quality, ontology, visualization, and insights
Lead and contribute to data pipelines from acquisition through integration to consumption for specific use cases
Embed data governance and metadata management into ingestion, curation, and pipeline development efforts
Analytics Delivery and Stakeholder Engagement
Promote data analytics and delivery efforts and manage relationships with stakeholders across the organization
Proactively communicate with stakeholders and prioritize analytics delivery work
Drive data requirements to ensure solutions meet true business needs, not only requested outputs
Implement complex analytics deliverables such as analyses, reports, metrics, extracts, visualizations, projects, and dashboards
Perform complex problem solving, data analysis, and testing using SQL and NoSQL technologies
Standards, Testing, and System Maintenance
Adhere to IS standard operating procedures, institutional policies, and build standards with data stewardship and governance oversight
Prepare documentation for enhancements and new technology implementations
Follow documented change control processes and participate in change control audits
Perform quality control, testing, and peer review of analytics builds
Assist with analytics system updates, new releases, after-hours support, and downtime procedures
Education, Training, and Knowledge Transfer
Train data scientists, analysts, end users, and data consumers on data pipelining and preparation techniques
Coordinate and establish training plans for Context Engine tools and develop curricula with training partners
Provide institutional, department, and one-on-one training on Enterprise Data Engineering & Analytics deliverables
Coach and mentor less experienced team members and transfer technical knowledge

EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred: Master's Degree Business Analytics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or related.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required: 5 years Relevant information technology experience. or
Required: 3 years Relevant experience required with preferred degree.
May substitute required education with years of related experience on a one to one basis.
Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Fabric infrastructure, including its compute, storage, and orchestration layers, experience in Power BI, MicroStrategy, and Tableau, advanced data engineering with PySpark and Medallion Architecture, creating data pipelines in healthcare academic environment.
