Job Title: Senior Accountant
Job Summary
The detail-oriented Senior Accountant is responsible for all aspects of the full-cycle month-end closing, including account reconciliations, journal entries and preparing assigned schedules, and acts as the backup for accounts payable and payroll processing. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting knowledge, the ability to reconcile data across systems, identify discrepancies, and maintain organized supporting documentation.
The Senior Accountant will manage employee expense processing along with processing AMEX transactions. This role reports to the Controller and is part of a four-person accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger Accounting
Prepare, analyze, and support monthly journal entries including accruals, prepaid assets and amortization, fixed asset capitalization, depreciation, reclassifications, and other month-end close entries. Ensure entries are accurate, properly supported, and recorded in the appropriate accounting period.
Analyze general ledger accounts and perform assigned monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations, including identifying and documenting reconciling items, researching variances, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring balances are accurate, supported, and completed in accordance with monthly close timeline. Support the monthly close process by preparing assigned schedules.
Maintain organized and audit-ready documentation to support journal entries, reconciliations, financial reporting, and audit requests.
Follow established accounting policies and procedures and internal controls, including maintaining proper documentation, obtaining required approvals, and ensuring assigned work is performed accurately and consistently.
Assist the Controller with the annual financial audit by compiling supporting documentation and preparing assigned audit schedules, ensuring reconciliations and schedules are complete, accurate, and audit ready.
Perform ad-hoc reporting and analysis. Other duties as assigned.
Expense Management
Manage employee expense reports and AMEX employee card transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
Identify and implement enhancements to processes, controls, and system use.
Payroll / Accounts Payable
Provide back-up coverage for payroll processing using ADP Workforce Now.
Provide accounts payable back-up coverage including entering vendor transactions into Deltek Vantagepoint.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
4-6 years of relevant accounting experience.
Experience with month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
Working knowledge of US GAAP and standard business practices.
Proficiency with Deltek or similar accounting software.
Intermediate Excel skills required.
Ability to work independently, manage priorities, meet deadlines, and identify when issues require research, escalation, or follow-up.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, including the ability to clearly document accounting processes and support conclusions.
Exhibits integrity through fair and ethical behavior and works effectively within a team environment, demonstrating a sense of responsibility and commitment.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with ADP or similar payroll software.
Experience with accounts payable preferred.
Expected Salary Range (based upon if state requires)
The expected compensation for this role, including benefits, ranges from $80,000 to $90,000 annually and will be determined based on experience, licensure, education, internal equity, project scope, and location.
