NOW HIRING #### Administrative Assistant/ Assistant Veterans Service Officer ------------------------------------------------------------------------ #### JOB TYPE Full Time Employment (a job working 40 hours per week or more) #### #### JOB SUMMARY Reporting to the County Veteran Service Officer, the Administrative Assistant/Assistant VSO is responsible for the administration of the Veterans Service Commission when the Veteran Service Officer and Director are not present. The Administrative Assistant/Assistant VSO provides assistance to Veterans and their families, represents the Veterans Service Commission at meetings, seminars, etc. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties are normal duties for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Assist the County Veteran Service Officer in performance of daily activities as needed; prepares and processes outgoing mail. Assist in answering in-coming phone calls. Maintain the budget line items, payment of monthly bills, open and close yearly purchase orders. Conduct comprehensive client interviews to assess client needs, to include; Screening of Veterans and clients for VA, federal, state and local benefits and referring to VSO/CVSO. Assist Veterans with the enrollment into VA Healthcare. Schedule transportation to VA and VA outsourced appointments. Act as the Veterans Liaison to medical facilities when billing/document request problems arise. Interview and investigate financial assistance applicants, obtain vendor numbers, present claim to VSO/CVSO to finalize prior to presentation to the Veterans Service Commission. Maintain a working inventory of Veteran Markers and Flag Boxes. Prepare monthly board meeting binders with the current budget reports and financial assistance documents. Various clerical activities and functions including typing correspondence, reports and related items; maintaining and updating files and records; copying and filing correspondence, memos, reports, documents, etc. #### #### EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Minimum Qualifications: Must be a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States who received an honorable discharge at time of release from active duty; computer knowledge necessary; prior experience as a state certified Veterans Service Officer preferred but not necessary. High school diploma or G.E.D, college level desired; current valid Ohio drivers' license required.[A passing score on State Certification Exam within thirty months of hire is required to maintain position.]{.underline}Physical requirements: Position typically requires: the use of fingers, talking, hearing, seeing, bending, stooping, squatting, and repetitive motions. Incumbents will be required to travel; Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, with intermittent walking and standing. #### SALARY/BENEFITS ?This is a salaried position. Starting pay will be dependent on experience. Salary scale for non-VSO accredited applicants will start at $30,000.00. Accredited VSO applicant's salary range will start at $40,000.00 yearly.
