Job Title: A&P Blackhawk Mechanic
Job Description
This role focuses on performing field and hangar maintenance on Blackhawk (UH-60/H-60) helicopters that support firefighting and utility operations across the Western United States. You will use your A&P license and Blackhawk expertise to maintain aircraft in both base hangar and remote fire base environments, working a 12-on/12-off rotation during fire season with all travel, lodging, and meals provided. The position begins in the main hangar with standard daytime hours and then transitions into seasonal deployments to USFS and state fire bases.
Responsibilities
Perform field maintenance on Blackhawk (UH-60/H-60) helicopters at USFS and state fire bases throughout the Western United States.
Conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on Blackhawk aircraft to support firefighting and utility operations.
Troubleshoot mechanical and avionics issues on UH-60/H-60 aircraft and perform necessary repairs and installations.
Carry out maintenance activities in field conditions, ensuring at least 90 days of effective aircraft support in remote environments.
Support evening and early morning maintenance windows when aircraft are flying and operating during daytime hours.
Work initially in the home hangar performing maintenance, refurbishment, and repair tasks on helicopters under normal daytime hours (approximately 0800-1700, Monday-Friday).
Adhere to all maintenance documentation requirements, including providing and working under TI orders on H-60 aircraft when applicable.
Ensure all work complies with FAA regulations, A&P standards, and internal maintenance procedures.
Collaborate with other technicians and flight crews to ensure aircraft readiness, safety, and reliability for firefighting missions.
Participate in rotating assignments between home hangar and field worksites during the fire season deployment schedule (12 days on/12 days off).
Optionally work in the home hangar during off-rotation periods to increase earnings, while observing required rest days before redeployment.
Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and organization in both hangar and field maintenance environments.
Essential Skills
Active Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license held for at least 2 years, or a minimum of 1 year with TI orders on H-60 aircraft in the military.
A minimum of 2+ years of UH-60 (Blackhawk) maintenance experience within the last 3 years.
At least 1 year of experience working under TI orders on H-60 aircraft, with the ability to provide documentation.
Minimum of 90 days of experience maintaining aircraft in field conditions.
Hands-on experience with troubleshooting, repair, installation, and maintenance on UH-60/H-60 helicopters.
Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving mechanical and systems issues on Blackhawk platforms.
Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and early mornings, especially during the fire season.
Capability to travel frequently and work in remote field locations on a 12-on/12-off deployment schedule.
Strong adherence to safety protocols and regulatory compliance in all maintenance activities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with H-60/H-60 variants in military or civilian environments.
Prior experience supporting firefighting, utility, or similar mission-based helicopter operations.
Comfort working in both hangar and field maintenance settings with varying workloads.
Ability to function effectively with limited supervision in remote locations.
Willingness to travel extensively, including regular flights to and from the home hangar on weekends during initial phases.
Flexibility to start between late April and June 1, aligning with of the fire season.
No personal tools required; however, you may bring select preferred tools if desired.

Work Environment
The company has operated for approximately 25 years and maintains two large hangars and a well-equipped backshop. The core business includes refurbishing Huey helicopters for private owners and film and television productions, performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance for private helicopter owners, and deploying its own aircraft for firefighting and utility operations. The team also refurbishes Cobras and other specialized helicopters, creating a diverse and technically interesting fleet. You will start in the main hangar, working standard hours of 0800-1700, Monday through Friday, with flights home on weekends provided. During the fire season, typically June through October, you will deploy to USFS and state fire bases on a 12-on/12-off schedule, with all travel, lodging, transportation to and from worksites, and meals provided. The environment combines structured hangar work with demanding field operations, offering high-tempo periods with significant overtime potential by the third day of the workweek, while much of the daytime may be less busy when aircraft are flying and maintenance shifts to evenings or early mornings. No personal tools are required, and housing such as apartments may be provided when working from the home hangar during off-rotation periods.
