Summary See below for important information regarding this job. Responsibilities Leads three or more workers to accomplish trades and labor work. Passes instructions on to other workers. Ensures that needed tools and materials are available. Sees that all workers have enough work. Checks work in progress and completed work for compliance. The non-lead duties include stock selection, stow, research, location survey, physical inventory, material handling, material examining and identifying, packing, and operating Material Handling Equipment (MHE). Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments. Checks accompanying documentation against container or packing labels. Follows established procedures in reporting over, short, misdirected, or damaged materials. Packs and/or preserves a variety of items. Determines the materials, containers, devices and/or preservatives needed. Assembles items for shipment in the loading area according to information provided on the shipping requests and checks the condition of shipping containers prior to loading. Ensures shipments are properly loaded onto the right conveyances. Operates one or more @types of material handling equipment such as standard @type forklift with a lifting capacity of up to 15,000 pounds, warehouse tractor, or general-purpose vehicle. Bending, stooping, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts, and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds. Uses weight handling equipment or receives assistance from other workers for items heavier than 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed within a warehouse environment. Works outside and inside in areas that are hot, damp, cold, drafty, and poorly lit. Subject to cuts, scrapes, bruises, muscle strain, noise, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock. May be exposed to dusty, dirty, or greasy conditions. Must possess or be able to obtain all appropriate state and governmental licenses. Drug-Free Workplace Policy The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is committed to maintaining a safe, drug-free workplace. All DLA employees are required to refrain from illegal drug use on and off duty. DLA conducts pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and random drug testing.
