Summary You will serve as a GENERAL ENGINEER in the Engineering Department of SUBMEPP ACTIVITY. Salary Range: GS-11: $84,579 - $109,959 GS-12 $101,375 - $131,790 Responsibilities You will support a variety of submarine systems, components, and platforms. You will apply professional/technical aspects of engineering procedures and methods as well as standardized approaches common in the fields of mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering and naval architecture. You will perform work relating to the form, strength, stability, performance, and operational characteristics of marine structures and waterborne vessels. You will be involved in the maintenance of mechanical devices and systems and their equipment and/or components. You will develop and continually review procedures to ensure effective management and control of assigned programs. You will represent SUBMEPP in discussions, conferences, meetings with technical and managerial personnel within and external to SUBMEPP to discuss and resolve technical and programmatic problems. You will anticipate future requirements, assess the value and effort of new developments, and apply the latest technological advances to program operations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-12: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer applying engineering principles and theories as they relate to architecture, mechanical and/or electrical engineering or to use engineering technologies to understand and apply new developments for design, construction, maintenance, modernization, or repairs of submarines. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-@type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. GS-11 position: In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience for the GS-11 Grade level: Successful completion a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree OR A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
