Description
We are looking for a Staff Accountant to immediately join a local municipality on a contract basis supporting a financial audit. This opportunity is ideal for an Accountant with government/municipality experience who can strengthen day-to-day financial operations while supporting audit readiness and accurate reporting. The role requires someone who is comfortable working across reconciliations, journal activity, and financial statement preparation in a public sector environment.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and record journal entries to maintain accurate and timely financial records.
Reconcile general ledger activity and resolve discrepancies across key balance sheet and bank accounts.
Support the audit process by organizing schedules, responding to documentation requests, and assisting with follow-up items.
Compile financial reports and statements to help ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with reporting expectations.
Review banking activity and perform account reconciliations to verify cash balances and transactions.
Assist with tax-related accounting tasks, including maintaining supporting records and preparing relevant schedules.
Contribute to accounting activities associated with the municipality's transition from QuickBooks to Edmonds as needed.
Partner with internal stakeholders to identify inconsistencies, improve record accuracy, and maintain organized financial documentation.
Requirements - At least 3 years of accounting experience in a staff or senior accountant capacity.
Strong hands-on experience with journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and account reconciliation.
Proven ability to complete bank reconciliations and investigate variances efficiently.
Experience preparing financial statements and supporting external or internal audits.
Working knowledge of corporate tax, sales tax, and related reporting requirements.
High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail in financial processing.
Ability to work independently in a Contract role while managing deadlines and shifting priorities.
