Summary Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Superintendent, House Office Buildings (HOB), Assistant Superintendent, Tenant Services Division; Carpentry Branch. The incumbent serves as a Wood Crafter Leader, leading WG-10 Wood Crafters in making and repairing high-grade wooden items such as fine cabinetry and furniture. Responsibilities The tour of duty is Monday - Friday 4:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. Hours may change due to operational needs of management. Duties include, but are not limited to: Pass on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and get work started by distributing the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the work group. Work along with other workers and set the pace and check work while in progress and when finished, see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been followed. Demonstrate proper work methods and ensure that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available and that needed materials are obtained. Obtain necessary information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work shift. Maintain current knowledge on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives seeing to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy. Report to supervisors on status and progress of work and causes of work delays. Answer supervisor's questions on overall work operations and problems. Utilize various office automation software for maintaining records such as TMA work orders, price estimates, and status reports. Utilize acquisition and material management procedures to order and maintain supplies, equipment and materials. Follow all relevant safety rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures and utilize knowledge of all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner. Utilize a wide knowledge of wood supplies and precision woodworking methods to plan and lay out work from specifications, blueprints, rough sketches, and verbal instructions, taking into consideration the tooling, durability, cost, strength, and appearance characteristics of a variety of softwoods, hardwoods, plywood, veneers, and wood substitutes for projects. Participate in pre-construction demolition projects, renovations, and new construction. Select cut, turn, shape, join, bond, fit, assemble, and decorate wooden materials and parts using a variety of hand and power woodworking tools, machines, and techniques to create superior and structurally reliable wood work which requires exact fitting and close weight, pressure, and size tolerances to construct speciality furniture.
