The Blood Bank (Transfusion) Laboratory at MD Anderson Cancer Center plays a critical role in supporting patient care by ensuring the safe and timely provision of blood products for oncology patients. This Medical Laboratory Scientist position offers the opportunity to work in a specialized, high-impact area of laboratory medicine, supporting transfusion services that are vital to patient treatment. You will be part of a collaborative team responsible for delivering precise and timely results while maintaining strict compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
In this role, you will perform routine and complex blood bank testing, ensuring all quality control measures are met prior to releasing results. You will troubleshoot and maintain laboratory instrumentation, manage specimen data accurately, and evaluate patient results to support safe transfusion practices. Your ability to maintain accuracy under pressure is essential in this critical care environment.
You will also contribute to efficient laboratory operations, prioritizing workload to meet turnaround times while supporting team members and maintaining overall workflow. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are key to success in this role.
Additionally, you will support training and continuous improvement efforts, assisting in onboarding new staff and students, participating in process improvement initiatives, and supporting validation of new methodologies and systems. A strong focus on regulatory compliance, safety, and quality assurance is required at all times.
This role also includes a customer service component, requiring effective communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of issues and support clinical teams.

Computer Skills
Maintains proficiency on computer functions in the lab processes.
Properly acquires specimen data into computer system(s).

Stores patient information and results to allow easy future access as required.

Required:
Associate's Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology OR
Bachelor's Degree in a related science field or Molecular Genetic Technology OR
Successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Clinical Laboratory Science/Molecular Genetic Technology accredited program
Required Experience:
2 years of clinical laboratory experience with an Associate's Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology
1 year of clinical laboratory experience with a Bachelor's Degree in a related science field
No experience required with completion of a NAACLS-accredited Clinical Laboratory Science/Molecular Genetic Technology accredited program
