The Construction Superintendent oversees day-to-day operations on active commercial construction sites, ensuring projects stay on schedule, within scope, and in compliance with safety and quality standards. This role leads field teams and subcontractors, manages project documentation and logistics, and serves as the primary on-site point of contact for clients and internal stakeholders. The superintendent actively drives project progress, resolves issues in real time, and promotes a positive, safety-focused jobsite culture.
Responsibilities
Create, maintain, and update detailed project schedules to reflect real-time progress, including at least three-week look-ahead schedules.
Coordinate the daily activities of subcontractors, vendors, interns, and field staff to ensure efficient and safe jobsite operations.
Support the development and review of scopes of work and assist with bid solicitation efforts to align subcontractor work with project objectives.
Monitor, validate, and approve daily work tickets and field documentation to maintain accurate project records.
Review and manage submittals to ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and project requirements.
Oversee punch list activities, drive timely completion of outstanding items, and support a smooth project closeout.
Manage jobsite logistics, including mobilization, demobilization, and tracking of materials, tools, and equipment.
Partner with leadership to identify training needs and support career development for field staff through coaching and feedback.
Reinforce company goals, policies, and priorities through consistent, clear communication with field teams.
Act as the primary on-site contact for clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal project teams, representing the project professionally.
Address and resolve client issues promptly and professionally, escalating concerns when needed to protect project outcomes.
Communicate project progress, schedule changes, and logistical updates between all stakeholders to maintain alignment.
Facilitate resolution of subcontractor conflicts or performance concerns, ensuring issues are documented and addressed.
Coordinate and deliver facility training during project turnover to ensure end users understand building systems and operations.
Prepare and distribute daily superintendent reports that document progress, manpower, safety items, and key site activities.
Promote and model company culture and values on the jobsite, fostering collaboration, accountability, and respect.
Enforce company safety policies and jobsite safety standards at all times.
Collaborate with the Safety team to develop and implement site-specific safety plans tailored to project conditions.
Ensure all subcontractors and personnel comply with safety requirements and jobsite rules.
Lead and document weekly safety meetings and pre-task planning sessions to identify and mitigate risks.
Maintain accurate safety logs, incident reports, and related documentation in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 2+ years of commercial general contractor experience.
Minimum of 5 years leading construction trades and active jobsites.
Solid understanding of commercial construction processes, sequencing, and jobsite operations.
Demonstrated experience coordinating and managing subcontractors on active construction projects.
Proficiency with construction scheduling, including creating and managing at least three-week look-ahead schedules.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.
OSHA 30 certification, or the ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire.
Working knowledge of OSHA standards and regulatory requirements for construction sites.
Proficiency with Microsoft Project or similar scheduling tools such as Primavera or Suretrak.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook for daily reporting and communication.
Experience using construction management platforms such as Procore.
Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.
Proven ability to enforce safety policies and lead safety meetings and pre-task planning.
Strong organizational skills to manage documentation, logistics, and multiple concurrent tasks on site.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
Experience working for a commercial general contractor on complex projects.
Familiarity with SharePoint or similar collaboration and document management tools.
Experience managing punch lists, project closeout, and facility training during turnover.
Mechanical systems awareness sufficient to coordinate with mechanical trades and review related scopes of work.
Ability to identify training needs and support the professional development of field staff.
Strong problem-solving skills to address client concerns and subcontractor performance issues in real time.
Ability to represent the project and company professionally as the primary on-site point of contact.
Interest in ongoing learning and professional development through formal and informal training opportunities.
Capability to promote a positive, inclusive, and collaborative jobsite culture.
Work Environment
This role is based onsite at an active construction project at a high school campus in Chehalis. The superintendent works primarily in the field, spending most of the time on the jobsite coordinating trades, monitoring work, and enforcing safety standards in a dynamic construction environment. The position involves regular interaction with clients, school representatives, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams. Work is typically full-time and may require flexibility in hours to align with project milestones, inspections, and critical activities. The environment includes exposure to typical construction site conditions such as noise, dust, varying weather, and the need for appropriate personal protective equipment. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $48.08 - $55.28/hr.
