As a Nursery Success and Optimization Scientist, you will play a crucial role in advancing our research and development efforts in Plant Breeding in Puerto Rico and participate in similar efforts globally. You will be responsible for conducting complex research focused on improving efficiencies in breeding operations. Your expertise will contribute to the development and optimization of plant growth and seed production procedures in controlled environment and open fields. You will also be involved in developing and validating a variety of analytical and automation methods, analyzing data, and communicating with multiple stakeholders. Your work will drive novel process improvement activities and require a broad application of scientific principles. Staying current with literature in your areas of assignment and professional interest is essential to your success in this role.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct hands-on novel process improvements in breeding operations requiring specialized knowledge and broad application of scientific principles;

Manage complex research projects involving optimizing crop growth conditions, reproductive biology related techniques, doubled haploid production, and seed production techniques in row crops;

Support deploying automated or digital tools used in breeding operations (e.g., environmental control systems, phenotyping equipment, and data capture platforms

Analyze data and share insights with broader teams;

Take initiative in keeping current with literature in areas of research and professional interest;

The incumbent will be part of the Breeding Leadership Team in Puerto Rico, supporting the site in the strategic development of capabilities and people skills;

Actively participate in all initiatives related to site morale, safety, compliance, capital projects, community outreach, and government affairs.

WHO YOU ARE:

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in agronomy, seed science, or other relevant agricultural sciences;

Demonstrated hands-on research experience with ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in dynamic environments;

Strong execution and results orientation with meticulous attention to detail and data quality;

Proficiency in experimental design, data analysis, and documentation; strong written and oral communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences;

Ability to influence and collaborate across teams, build effective relationships internally and externally, and drive alignment to achieve shared goals;

Willingness to work in controlled environment and field settings and to travel between research stations;

Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in agronomy, seed science, or other relevant agricultural sciences with at least 5 years of experience; OR

Master's degree in agronomy, seed science, or other relevant agricultural sciences with 3 years of experience in nursery management in breeding.

This posting will be available for application until at least May 11, 2026.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $94,480.00 to $141,720.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive compensation (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
