Under the direction of the Deputy Director for Substance Use Services (Health Science Specialist), Research Scientist 3 will conduct or participate in research and evaluation projects to support the work of the Office of Substance Use Services, within the Division of Syndemic and Substance Use Services.

The Research Scientist 3 will conduct the following activities:

Participate in the daily activities of a group of professional and technical personnel engaged in research and/or evaluation activities related to Substance Use Services.

Implement and carry out specialized research and/or analytical programs designed by senior scientific staff to support the work of the Office of Substance Use Services. This includes, under the direction of senior scientific staff, investigating, reviewing, modifying, developing, and testing new analytical procedures and methodologies, interpreting raw analytical data and submitting conclusions and results to senior staff for approval.

Will be required to learn to utilize various @types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information system used by the agency, office, or related units.

Preparing or participating in the preparation of sound, accurate reports relating to research, grant, and other activities containing findings, conclusions, or recommendations in a manner that increases the likelihood that they will be used and accepted by a diverse group of stakeholders.

Functions as a scientific consultant in areas pertaining to specific expertise.

Research and apply for funding opportunities to maintain and expand current Department of Health activities to research, understand, and address the overdose epidemic and substance use services for the State, including integration of project-specific activities with broader state-funded efforts, as well as additional federal grants and cooperative agreements.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in a discipline appropriate to the position.

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience in a field appropriate to the position.

NOTE: A Doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the position may be substituted for two (2) years of experience indicated above.

LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
