Job Title: Manufacturing EngineerJob Description
This Manufacturing Engineer role focuses on creating, optimizing, and maintaining CNC programs for complex components using NX-CAM and other graphical CAM systems. You will support multi-axis milling, turning, grinding, and Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) operations, while driving process improvements that enhance safety, quality, cost, and delivery. The position combines hands-on CNC programming and troubleshooting with close collaboration across engineering, operations, and shop floor teams in a fast-paced, highly technical manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
Generate and maintain CNC programs utilizing NX-CAM or other graphical CAM software for multi-axis milling, turning, grinding, and EDM operations.
Verify new CNC programs prior to release to the shop floor using Vericut or similar verification tools to ensure accuracy and safety.
Provide daily CNC programming and troubleshooting support to shop floor operators to keep production running efficiently.
Support Manufacturing Engineering by providing CNC-related expertise and guidance on process development and optimization.
Deliver operator training during new or rebuilt machine startup and during implementation of process improvements.
Support and implement tooling and fixturing requirements associated with CNC machine tools, including tooling and fixture design as needed.
Generate and maintain workstation instructions and methods for CNC-related processes to ensure consistent and repeatable operations.
Initiate and lead process improvement projects focused on improving safety, product quality, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery.
Communicate effectively with cross-functional team members to share status updates, technical information, and recommendations.
Work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a matrixed organization, collaborating with multiple departments and stakeholders.
Operate successfully in a fast-paced environment while embracing and driving positive change within and across teams.
Essential Skills
Experience generating and maintaining CNC programs using graphical CAM systems such as NX-CAM.
Ability to program CNC operations for multi-axis milling, turning, grinding, and EDM processes.
Proficiency in CNC programming and troubleshooting in a production environment.
Experience verifying CNC programs prior to release, ideally using Vericut or similar software.
Working knowledge of tooling and fixturing requirements for CNC machine tools.
Ability to create clear workstation instructions and methods for CNC-related tasks.
Strong communication skills to effectively support operators and collaborate with engineering and production teams.
Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team-based, matrixed organization.
Capability to perform in a fast-paced environment and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Prefer a bachelor's degree, associate's degree, or machinist apprentice (or similar, including military equivalent) with 2+ years of experience with graphical CAM system CNC programming, OR a high school diploma with 5+ years of experience with graphical CAM system CNC programming.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with NX and NX-CAM specifically is highly desirable.
Experience with FANUC Macro B for probing, tool selection, data capture, and hole location logic is a strong plus.
Familiarity with 3-2-1 (six-point) nesting and basic probing routines is a strong plus.
Working knowledge of CMM and metrology concepts to support accurate part inspection and validation.
Background in tooling and fixture design to support CNC machining operations.
Openness to candidates with less experience who can demonstrate the ability to perform the core job responsibilities.
Work Environment
This role is based in a heavy-duty plant engineering environment focused on large systems for the power and energy industry, including gas turbines, wind power equipment, and other large-scale energy systems. The facility uses advanced equipment, CNC machine tools, and modern systems to support complex manufacturing operations. It is a large, established operation receiving significant investment and new work, offering long-term opportunity and potential for extension or conversion to a direct role. The work setting is fast-paced and highly technical, with close interaction between engineering teams and the shop floor in a production plant environment.
