Responsibilities You will carry out supervisory functions, i.e. plan work assignments based on priorities; identify employee training needs; give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees; recommend disciplinary action in serious cases. You will direct engineering efforts to improve or design ventilation systems, tools, equipment and processes. You will identify confined spaces and other workplaces to be monitored, establishing frequency of monitoring, methods of testing and calibration, and equipment to be used. You will establish requirements for developing, maintaining and issuing general and unique GFR and IH Division engineering instructions and control or eliminate potential hazards. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing advice and direction for a broad range of industrial hygiene maters, including the difficult @types of industrial hygiene evaluations; Applying new techniques, technical advances to solve novel or obscure problems which are not readily treatable by conventional methods; Training industrial hygienists, occupational safety and health personnel, management, supervisors and employees; Recognizing management practices, theories, and techniques w/an understanding of organizational structures, functions, procedures and applicable regulations as relate to the Industrial Hygiene environment; Supervising personnel, (i.e. rendering technical advice and direction on industrial hygiene sampling and analysis technique; discussing field survey finding; discussing technical issues and control recommendations, resolving technical disagreements; setting priorities, preparing schedules, and planning work to be accomplished; etc.); AND Providing advice and assistance w/regard to experimental operations where protection of workers from hazards must be weighed against the developmental needs for new products or processes. Education ALL APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE Basic Requirements The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. OR A Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene.
