Job Title: Mechanical Engineer (PE) - Federal and Healthcare Projects
This role offers an experienced Mechanical Engineer the opportunity to lead mechanical design for federal and healthcare facilities, working on design-build and design-bid-build projects from initial planning through construction. You will use AutoCAD and Revit daily to deliver technically excellent HVAC and mechanical systems, stamp drawings as the engineer of record, and ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements. The position provides significant exposure to owners and senior leadership, exciting government projects, and the flexibility of hybrid or remote work while supporting a small to medium-sized construction management and owner's representative organization.
Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design services for federal and healthcare clients, focusing on vertical structures and healthcare facilities.
Serve as engineer of record on projects, signing and sealing drawings and specifications as required.
Perform detailed mechanical and HVAC calculations to establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards.
Prepare technical drawings, HVAC system layouts, and specifications using AutoCAD and Revit to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and customer requirements.
Execute design-build and design-bid-build projects from initial planning and design through construction completion.
Apply and interpret UFCs, WBDG, USACE Huntsville Design Guides, and other federal standards in project designs.
Support project production to maintain schedule, budget, and planning requirements across multiple concurrent projects.
Participate actively in mechanical HVAC planning, design, and construction management for renovation and new construction projects.
Provide construction oversight, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and monitoring contract compliance.
Collaborate closely with owners, vice presidents, clients, and internal team members to define project requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
Use BIM processes and tools to coordinate mechanical designs with other disciplines and stakeholders.
Leverage industry-standard software such as Revit, CAD, Bluebeam, ProjectTeam, ProCon, SharePoint, MS Project, Deltek, CostPoint, GovWin, and Dropbox to manage design and documentation.
Support compliance with federal client expectations, including documentation of design experience and stamped drawings.
Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, templates, and best practices within the team.
Essential Skills
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Mechanical Engineering.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
8-15 years of mechanical engineering experience, with at least 10 years of mechanical design experience.
At least 5 years of experience on federal government A/E projects with federal agencies, or 10+ years of experience on hospital projects.
Proven experience as engineer of record, including signing or sealing drawings and specifications.
Strong proficiency with AutoCAD for daily mechanical design work.
Working knowledge of Revit and BIM processes for mechanical design and coordination.
Demonstrated expertise in mechanical engineering principles, practices, and processes, including design/build delivery.
Experience with mechanical HVAC planning, design, and construction management for renovation and new construction projects.
Ability to prepare detailed calculations, technical drawings, and specifications that meet applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
Experience applying UFCs, WBDG, USACE Huntsville Design Guides, and similar federal design criteria.
Proficiency in responding to RFIs, ensuring contract compliance, and providing construction oversight.
Experience using industry-standard software such as Revit, CAD, Bluebeam, ProjectTeam, ProCon, SharePoint, MS Project, Deltek, CostPoint, GovWin, and Dropbox.
Ability to pass federal background and drug screening requirements.
U.S. citizenship, as required by client contracts.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with federal medical clients such as Defense Health Agency (DHA), USACE Huntsville MST, USACE Little Rock MST, USACE Mobile MST, or the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Experience on design-build and design-bid-build projects for federal or healthcare facilities.
Strong project management skills, including schedule, budget, and resource coordination.
Experience with vertical structures and healthcare facility mechanical systems.
Familiarity with construction management tools and processes for government projects.
Ability to clearly document and communicate the number and @types of projects where you served as engineer of record and stamped drawings.
Strong collaboration and communication skills for working directly with owners, senior leadership, and clients.
Motivation to grow into greater responsibility through close interaction with owners, vice presidents, and clients.
Work Environment
The role supports a small to medium-sized construction management and owner's representative organization that delivers exciting government and healthcare projects. The primary office is located in MD, with remote and hybrid work options available.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $57.69 - $96.15/hr.
