Summary This position is located at the Bath VA Medical Center in Bath, NY. This position operates, maintains and repairs boilers and boiler plant auxiliary equipment as well as operates the facilities' NYSDOH public water treatment plant. Responsibilities Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Operates (3) Cleaver Brooks @type "D" high pressure multi-fuel (natural gas/ # 2 fuel oil with steam/compressed air atomization) forced draft water tube boilers; Operates and maintains boiler plant fuel systems (natural gas/ #2 fuel oil) including all filters, strainers, atomizers, main valves, vent valves and micro-valves; Monitors fuel oil consumption, tank levels, leak alarms and water detection by use of an Auto-Stick 2 tank monitoring system; Makes routine inspection tours of plant during the assigned shift to monitor operating conditions; Operates and maintains (4) electric boiler feed water pumps, (1) auxiliary feed water pump, (5) condensate return pumps, tanks and condensate storage tank, (2) feed water make up pumps and (2) condensate supply pumps; Operates, inspects and tests all boiler plant equipment associated with the production, disinfection and storage of the Station's potable water supply; Performs operational maintenance and repairs on boilers; Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Rotating shifts Monday through Sunday 8am-4pm, 4pm-12am, or 12am-8am; this position also requires work on weekends and holidays. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent is required to work in awkward or cramped positions while making repairs, inspections and performing maintenance duties. There is frequent standing, walking, climbing is required while checking equipment. Climbing ladders, use of heavy tools and lifting is required in order to perform equipment installation and repairs. Plant conditions require that proper protective safety equipment be worn while performing these duties. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional Information Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
