The Role

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

This job is for a position in the Actuator Engineering team under the Propulsion and Reactor Engineering Planning Yard Department. Area of responsibility encompasses supporting design and procurement of new electro-mechanical actuators and support of current in-service electro-mechanical actuators. This role is for the lead electrical engineer on the team. The role will entail design, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electro-mechanical actuators and electronics within the actuator designs. The selected candidate will also be responsible for mentoring junior electrical engineers.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;

Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;

Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

Knowledge of electronic system and component design

Knowledge of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) testing

Experience with testing equipment in a lab environment

Experience with project management

Ability to mentor junior electrical engineers
