Job Title: 2nd Shift Machine Operator
Job Description
The 2nd Shift Machine Operator runs CNC plasma equipment to cut sheet metal and other materials according to production requirements. This role focuses on safely operating the machine, performing basic setups, inspecting parts for quality, and supporting downstream processes. The position is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude who is eager to learn, comfortable using basic hand tools, and able to read tape measures and blueprints.
Responsibilities
Run 15-50 CNC plasma programs per day, with individual run times typically ranging from 1-10 minutes.
Load and unload sheet metal and other materials onto the plasma table safely and efficiently.
Change out programs between jobs, verify that the correct files are selected, and confirm proper machine settings before each run.
Perform basic machine setup, including checking torch height, changing consumables, and aligning materials accurately on the table.
Inspect cut parts for accuracy, edge quality, and dimensional correctness against specifications and blueprints.
Identify and promptly report any defects, inconsistencies, or machine issues to the appropriate personnel.
Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all established safety procedures and guidelines.
Assist with staging materials, labeling parts, and preparing completed components for downstream production processes.
Complete basic documentation for production tracking and quality control as required.
Essential Skills
Ability to read and interpret a tape measure accurately.
Ability to read and understand basic blueprints and drawings.
Comfort using basic hand and power tools such as hammers, drills, and wrenches.
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and interest in working with machinery and tools.
Basic understanding of mechanical concepts or hands-on mechanical experience.
Ability to perform repetitive tasks with attention to detail and quality.
Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to follow safety procedures.
Eagerness to learn new skills and adapt to training on CNC plasma equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Education in trades such as HVAC, pipe fitting, electrical, fabrication, or welding is welcome but not required.
Experience in construction, mechanical assembly, light industrial work, fabrication, or sheet metal work is a plus.
Ability to work effectively in a production or manufacturing environment.
Comfort working with hand tools and measuring devices in a fast-paced setting.
Willingness to be trained on forklift, rigging, and overhead crane operations, with certifications provided by the employer.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
