Description of Job
This position is an Electronics Specialist III at a Correctional Facility with the Colorado Department of Corrections located in Canon City, CO. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: ensuring a safe and secure work environment, providing highest level of electronics expertise and promoting the (CDOC) Mission, Vision and Values.
This position serves as an expert in all matters pertaining to facility electronic systems to include door controls, fire protection, security detection and alarms, telephone and other communication systems, public address and intercom systems, video surveillance and recording, cable TV distribution and the computer local area network (LAN). Using intrinsic knowledge and experience and consultation, position repairs, modifies and adapts these systems, ensuring strict compliance with all applicable policy and codes to include the National Electric Code (NEC); coordinates with such entities as CDOC Communications, Office of Information Technology, Colorado Inmate Phone System (CIPS), Prison Cable TV Manager, CDOC Security Technology Committee and the Vulnerability Assessment Teams to accomplish this work. Utilizes resources efficiently, performing periodic inventories and ensuring adequate supplies 'on hand' for routine and urgent issues.
Position serves as the liaison in all electronic system matters, contributing to facility planning process as an expert who can explain the capabilities of emerging technologies and suggest devices and systems to replace or better utilize current systems and equipment.
Position participates in the development of security policies, enforces these policies and personally participates in searching, escorting, transporting, inspecting and physically restraining inmates, as needed. Provides training, ensuring operations and individuals comply with appropriate key, tool, contraband and chemical control and inmate management procedures. Instructs staff and inmate workers in the correct use of relevant tools, equipment and procedures to ensure safe, efficient and effective completion of assigned tasks; stresses safe construction practices and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Position coaches and mentors staff towards career development by focusing on the promotion of teamwork, ensuring annual training, and counseling to resolve conflict.

Minimum Qualifications:
Three (3) years of professional experience repairing, maintaining, installing, modifying, calibrating, adapting, and fabricating electronic systems and equipment within a facility.
OR
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience as described above equal to three (3) years.
Substitution: Successful completion of an accredited, related educational degree in Electronic Technology or Electronic Engineering may substitute on a year for year basis. In order to use education as a substitute for experience, attach a copy of your transcripts showing the degree and date awarded.

The CDOC shall not hire nor promote anyone who may have contact with an offender who has engaged in sexual abuse which includes acts, activity, and sexual behavior, in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. Successfully pass all modules of the six-week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, to include English reading comprehension, relevant competency assessments and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics

Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take down
Use arms, palms of hands, shins, and feet to deliver blows
Withstand impact (slow speed or with a safety bag) on own body from strikes/blows

Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic
Get down on one or both knees and up again with multiple repetitions
Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum during Basic Training and will be exposed while on assignment
Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security
Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury
Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently

The CDOC is committed to a work environment free from illegal drugs and alcohol. A drug test will be administered to all new employees; employees must successfully pass. Random drug screening will occur throughout employment.
