Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Must be a US Citizen due to ITAR Regulations
Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer will design complex mechanical components and large assemblies using SolidWorks, perform engineering analyses and simulations, and support production and testing activities for a highly engineered product line. This role combines hands-on mechanical design with close collaboration across engineering, testing, and manufacturing teams to drive design improvements, ensure product quality, and enhance production processes.
Responsibilities
Design mechanical parts, detailed drawings, and large assemblies using SolidWorks CAD software.
Perform engineering analyses and simulations to validate designs and ensure performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
Provide ongoing support to the production floor, including implementing design changes and recommending process improvements.
Collaborate closely with the testing department to develop test plans and support test fixture or test equipment design and build activities.
Utilize the ERP system for accurate and timely data management related to products, including bills of materials and engineering changes.
Apply knowledge of metals, fabricated and welded machine parts, and weldments to create robust and efficient designs.
Incorporate GD&T principles into drawings to clearly define tolerances and ensure proper fit and function.
Contribute to electromechanical design efforts by integrating mechanical components with electrical or electronic elements as needed.
Work cross-functionally with engineering, production, and testing teams to troubleshoot issues and implement corrective actions.
Continuously seek opportunities to improve designs, reduce manufacturing costs, and enhance product performance.
Essential Skills
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
Approximately 3+ years of mechanical engineering experience; relevant co-ops and internships may be considered toward experience.
Proficient SolidWorks CAD experience for part, assembly, and detailed drawing creation.
Hands-on experience with metals and metal components in a mechanical design or manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of machine building, including the design of fabricated and welded machine parts and assemblies.
Understanding of welding and fabrication methods and how they influence design decisions.
Ability to perform engineering analyses and simulations to support design validation.
Familiarity with GD&T and its application on mechanical drawings.
Experience supporting production or manufacturing teams with design changes and process improvements.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with electromechanical design, integrating mechanical components with electrical or electronic systems.
Background working with fabricated and welded machine parts and weldments.
Experience using an ERP system for product data management, bills of materials, and engineering change control.
Co-op or internship experience in mechanical design, manufacturing, or machine building environments.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot design and production issues.
Clear communication skills for working with engineering, testing, and production personnel.
Interest in working on complex, high-performance products, including those used in demanding applications such as defense-related equipment.
Work Environment
The Mechanical Engineer will spend the majority of their time in an office-based engineering environment, working on SolidWorks and ERP systems to develop and manage mechanical designs. The role involves frequent collaboration with the production floor, particularly when design changes are needed or during testing phases, providing opportunities to see designs through to manufacturing and test. The setting supports close interaction with engineering, testing, and manufacturing teams, offering exposure to machine building, fabrication, and welded assemblies within a stable organization known for strong employee tenure and opportunities for contractors to transition to direct employment.
