What you'll do...
The Senior Data Scientist will design, build, and productionize machine learning solutions end-to-end, with a strong emphasis on ML engineering best practices and agentic AI systems (VLM/LLM-powered agents, tool use, orchestration, evaluation,). You will partner with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver measurable impact through scalable models and intelligent workflows.

From groceries and entertainment to sporting goods and crafts, Walmart U.S. offers an extensive selection that our customers value, whether they shop online at Walmart.com, through one of our mobile apps, or in-store. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.
What you'll do:
Build production ML systems : develop robust training/inference pipelines, model serving patterns, CI/CD for ML, and observability (drift, performance, cost).
Develop agentic AI solutions : design and implement LLM-based agents (planning, tool/function calling, retrieval, memory, multi-agent patterns) to automate workflows and decision support.
RAG and knowledge systems : build retrieval-augmented generation pipelines (indexing, chunking, embeddings, reranking), and optimize for latency, quality, and cost.
Evaluation and experimentation : create offline/online evaluation frameworks for ML and LLM/agent systems (golden sets, human-in-the-loop review, A/B tests, guardrail metrics).
Data and platform collaboration : work closely with data engineering and platform teams to ensure data quality, lineage, governance, and scalable infrastructure.
Stakeholder communication : translate complex technical results into clear business outcomes and recommendations.
What you'll bring:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field (Master's/PhD preferred) or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of experience building and deploying ML solutions in production environments.
Strong proficiency in Python and common ML libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, XGBoost/LightGBM, PyTorch/TensorFlow).
Demonstrated ML engineering experience:
Pipeline orchestration (e.g., Airflow, Dagster, Prefect)
Model packaging/serving (e.g., FastAPI, BentoML, TorchServe)
Containerization and deployment (Docker, Kubernetes)
CI/CD and testing practices for ML
Monitoring/observability (model metrics, drift, logging)
Solid understanding of statistics, experimental design, and causal/measurement thinking.
Experience with agentic AI / LLM systems , including:
Tool/function calling and agent orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangGraph/LangChain, Semantic Kernel, LlamaIndex, custom orchestrators)
Prompting strategies, structured outputs, and reliability techniques
RAG design and optimization
LLM/agent evaluation methodologies
Strong SQL skills and experience working with large-scale datasets.

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
