Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the AGM, GM, and/or Vice President of Operations, the Operations Manager shall organize, oversee, control and direct the activities of a school bus service location and/or locations(s) ensuring that the operations are safe, efficient and meet the needs of the customer(s), employees, and corporation. This classification is the most senior position at the location(s).
Duties/Responsibilities
Responsible for directing the day-to-day operations of a school bus facility/terminal.
Ensuring that each School District in the designated area is being supplied with all required information
Develop and manage a safe, reliable, on-time service through efficient and cost effective solutions to routing issues.
Oversee field supervisors and assignment of tasks
Coordinate and assist in the development of financial information, including managing cost control, labor hours, capital investment decisions, forecasting, budget planning, pricing, service management, and adhering to budget.
Oversee paperwork needed for the school district for billing purposes
Inspect the workplace while developing and maintaining a safety conscious culture that commences with the hiring process and continues at all times during an individual's employment.
Conduct routine checks from time-to-time in order to ensure optimal productivity and ensure employees are meeting their job responsibilities.
Frequent meetings are required to facilitate constructive feedback from employees.
Make decisions and recommendations regarding management of staff to include, recruitment, hiring, directing, counseling, disciplining, and terminating employees.
Act as a liaison between STA and customers, community, parents, students, and the public always ensuring the reputation of STA.
Monthly reviews with the customer/client (school personnel at the contacted schools) are required which includes a written brief to the Vice President.
Assist with the development of new business opportunities in the community.
Ensure that all routes are covered, and schedules met and any other matters that involve contract compliance.
Oversee the assignment of driving personnel to ensure consistent and efficient terminal operations.
Maintain a log of deviations or interruptions to service and reasons for the deviations, including but not limited to road failure.
Organize and lead monthly safety/in-service training meetings.
Participate in recruitment and scheduling driver training classes.
Assure that payroll, billing and other reports are accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
Investigate all incidents and accidents, including conducting interviews, schedule follow-up retraining or other corrective action and report findings.
Responsible for carrying out all STA policies and State & Federal applicable regulations.
Ensuring all drivers and staff are equipped with all necessary job related training.
Develop charter and school business for assets during non-school days and summer months.
Drive routes, as needed.
Significant, daily contact with all levels of Company personnel and as necessary with outside entities such as school district officials and the public. Contacts are generally for the purpose of dispensing information, providing technical advice or policy interpretation or for program coordination. These contacts will require considerable judgment, diplomacy and discretion and the ability to communicate clearly.
Manage sensitive and/or confidential information and must exercise extreme care in maintaining confidentiality and privacy.
Some business travel may be required and may require overnight stays to include other areas of the US, as deemed appropriate.
Performs other duties as required.
Required Skills/Abilities-Essential Functions:
Must have excellent working knowledge of all aspects of operations.
Must have good interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office and ability to learn and utilize software applications
People skills, creativity, rational analysis, and knowledge of the transportation industry
Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
Must have strong leadership abilities.
Conduct oneself professionally and in a manner to reflect positively on STA.
Must have knowledge of Federal and State regulations, including OSHA.
Ability to evaluate and discipline drivers and enforce STA policy and procedure.
Must be highly motivated and demonstrate capable leadership skills.
Attend work on a regular and dependable basis; must be available to work in excess of 40 hours per week and be available in the evenings and on weekends as necessary to meet business needs.
A bility to successfully pass state and/or federal required Background Checks
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job

This is a safety sensitive job and all duties are regulated by the DOT.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree, preferred or equivalent management experience.
At least four (4) years' experience in a management role in transportation, logistics or similar field
Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License and DOT physical or must be able to attain within six (6) months of hire.
Ability to safely lift heavy equipment (minimum of 50 lbs can be up to 100 pounds) frequently throughout the work day.
