Job Description

The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County ("BXDA") is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By "Pursuing Justice with Integrity," the BXDA places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants. Moreover, the BXDA aims to balance the need to seek appropriate punishment for certain crimes while recognizing when punitive measures do not adequately advance justice. The Bronx District Attorney's Office is seeking well-qualified Trial Preparation Assistant Supervisor in the Domestic Violence Bureau to aid in the pre-arrest and post-arrest investigation and prosecution of domestic violence crimes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with training TPAs to function within their bureau's requirements.

Oversee duties and responsibilities of TPAs.

Maintain and update trial ready and COC Spreadsheet.

Communicate with Director and Deputy Director as to the productivity of professional staff on a regular basis.

Oversee and supervise discovery protocol and procedure.

Communicate with and acquire documents from other agencies, such as NYPD, DOC, ACS, OCME, and hospitals or wherever documents are located.

Compile, analyze, reproduce case documents and ensure proper redaction of documentation. Perform legal research.

Draft legal documents such as motion responses, legal memorandum, search warrants, subpoenas, and Orders to Produce and Certificates of Compliance.

Preparation of discovery for defense attorneys.

Perform legal research.

Engage in witness contact and communication.

Secure, listen to, and transcribe phone calls from the Department of Correction.

Perform all bureau related duties as needed or assigned, including but not limited to drafting or typing of correspondence and confidential documents, updating computer-based tracking systems, record keeping, filing, and document preparation.

All other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

A baccalaureate degree preferred.

Candidate should possess analytical and problem-solving skills, a sense of responsibility, and an ability to work well independently and in a team environment.

Excellent written and verbal interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel and case management software

Familiarity with general court services and functions.

Understanding of the criminal justice system used in New York State and New York City.

Ability to exercise good judgment and strong ethics.

Exhibit an ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

Must have a valid NYS Driver's License with at least 2 years driving experience.

Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or

Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
