AI Technical Coordinator
The AI Technical Coordinator ( Professional Services Specialist 4, Computer Services) is a newly established position within Kean Information Technology designed to advance Kean University's leadership in artificial intelligence innovation. Reporting to the Assistant Supervisor in Kean IT, this role focuses on developing and operationalizing tools, workflows and use cases for the KEANU-AI platform.
The AI Technical Coordinator will collaborate with departments across the university to design and implement AI-driven process improvements that reduce manual work, enhance digital efficiency and strengthen the university's position as a forward-thinking institution. This position combines technical programming expertise, process automation strategy and user engagement to ensure that AI solutions deliver measurable results across academic and administrative functions.
The AI Technical Coordinator plays a critical role in shaping Kean University's digital transformation journey. By building intelligent automation and AI solutions that simplify complex processes, this position ensures technology enhances-not replaces-human potential. Through innovation, collaboration, and forward-thinking design, the AI Technical Coordinator helps position Kean as a leader in academic and operational excellence through artificial intelligence.
This employee is expected to work on site at one of the Kean campus locations. This position requires travel, including travel to satellite campuses and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and one year of professional experience in one or a combination of the following: AI development, automation engineering or process innovation; installation and maintenance of application programs; technical support; or design and preparation of IT programs. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year-for-year basis. Preferred qualifications include: a Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science or a related discipline; professional certifications in AI, data analytics, or automation (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate, TensorFlow Developer); and experience developing AI solutions in higher education or large enterprise environments. Candidate must have strong technical understanding of AI tools and platforms (e.g., OpenAI, Azure AI, Google Cloud AI or equivalent); demonstrated experience with scripting, workflow automation or API integrations; and excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple complex initiatives.
This is a Civil Service position. The selected candidate will be required to pass a four (4) month Working Test Period.

In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated annual salary range for this position is: $56,253.35 to $63,946.40 (Steps 1-4). Salaries for internal applicants will be based on union negotiated calculations. This position may also be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, a retirement plan and benefits for work life balance. Employment at Kean requires working at any of our New Jersey campus locations or affiliated work sites, which may include, but not be limited to: the main campus in Union; Kean Ocean in Toms River; Kean Skylands in Jefferson Township; Kean Jersey City; Kean at Brookdale in Middletown Township; Manahawkin; Princeton; and Trenton. Location assignments will be based on operational and university needs. Faculty may also be assigned to teach online classes for Kean Global.
