Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level staff, the Park Supervisor 2 is a working supervisor responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the maintenance and operations activities at Hempstead Lake State Park. Duties include but are not limited to:- Planning, scheduling, implementing, evaluating, and supervising work projects, including the maintenance, repair, and construction of developed areas of the park such as buildings, park features, grounds care, or other structures and landscaped zones.- Inspecting landscaped areas and buildings to identify repair needs, recommending corrective action, resolving work problems, evaluating work progress, and identifying additional needs for attention.- Developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs, reviewing maintenance requests, and assessing materials, equipment, and labor requirements.- Evaluating work requests, ordering/scheduling materials and equipment, and scheduling personnel to complete job assignments.- Instructing staff in work techniques, use of equipment, and safety precautions and requirements, including OSHA/PESH requirements and all safety, and OER trainings.- Operating vehicles and other power equipment utilized in the maintenance and repair of the park, including but not limited to trucks, chain saws, bobcats, jack hammers, and tractors.- Preparing documentation such as requisitions for purchasing materials and supplies.- Monitoring inventory and requisitions materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.- Coordinating logistical aspects of routine programs and special events including security, admissions, transportation, traffic flow, and setup/cleanup.- Supervising and performing administrative duties in support of the facility; preparing various reports including attendance, personnel, and work progress reports/evaluations, etc.- Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications NY HELPS QUALIFICATIONS:This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:Either 1. four years of experience in the construction, operation, or maintenance of a park, recreational facility, or campus;* one year of this experience must be at a supervisory level;Or 2. an associate's or higher level degree or 60 college semester credit hours AND two years as described in No. 1 above; one year of this experience must be at a supervisory level.For the purposes of this examination a park, recreational facility, or campus is defined as a location that offers at least three of the following elements: athletic fields, skating rink, campgrounds, golf courses, hiking trails, historic structures, marinas, picnic areas, playgrounds, recreation programs, swimming facilities or education, environmental or interpretive programming.If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You must pay the required evaluation fee.ELIGIBLE LIST QUALIFICATIONS:Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list.REASSIGNMENT QUALIFICATIONS:Candidates must be current New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation employees and have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Park Supervisor 2 to be eligible for reassignment.52.7 NON-COMPETITIVE PROMOTION (NCP) QUALIFICATIONS:As required by the New York State Department of Civil Service, we are posting for this position to determine if there are any qualified OPRHP employees interested in a permanent appointment to the position. If there are three or fewer qualified candidates interested in the position who meet the promotion minimum qualifications, a permanent appointment can be made pursuant to Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. The minimum qualifications for the NCP appointment are: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/55c service as a Park Supervisor 1.Note: Non-competitive refers to not competing in an examination; the appointment will be competitive.It is essential that candidates clearly and concisely indicate exactly how they meet the above minimum qualifications in their resume. Failure to show how you meet the minimum qualifications above may result in disqualification and removal from consideration.**For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:- Must possess and maintain a valid New York State Driver's License as a term and condition of employment. - Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and complete Game of Logging levels 1, 2, and 3 or equivalent training, and receive First Aid, CPR and AED training within the probationary period OR will need to complete as soon as the appropriate training(s) are offered in the Region and maintain them as a term and condition of employment.- Must be willing and able to work late evenings, holidays and weekend shifts as required. Work schedule may change to accommodate operational needs. - Position may require working in inclement weather.- Must be able to lift, carry, and/or move equipment or materials of different weights and sizes and be able to stand for long hours.- Must be proficient with a computer, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook programs.- Must have strong communication and organizational skills.- Candidates may be required to report to other facilities throughout the Long Island Region on an as-needed basis.Additional Information:Duties may vary based on operational needs and seasonal demands.
