SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible for the set up and operation of extrusion and other associated equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Operators will follow the established work instructions and process specification sheets to complete line set ups, mixing materials, loading hoppers, and processing scrap as required by operational needs.
To ensure quality, the operator will follow ISO policies and procedures, maintain production rates/schedule, and perform quality checks during the work process by inspecting the product both visually and using O.D. and/or PI Tape and calipers and assure conformance to specification by eliminating known defects and documenting good and non-conforming product.
Correctly complete all necessary records, reports, etc., as required.
Operator will diagnose and troubleshoot minor problems to prevent serious mechanical failures and communicate with maintenance when needed.
Operator will prioritize job duties based on information obtained from the Work Leader/Value Stream Team Leader.
Monitor and follow all safety preventative measures and practices, including 5S and safety guidelines.
Operator will communicate with Material Handler/Warehouse when needing supplies.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/ NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures in a manner that eliminates risk to health and the environment. Notify leadership of unsafe conditions or practices unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to leadership immediately.
Prevent excess waste of product and/or components by operating the equipment in an efficient manner.
Maintain production schedules.
Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
Education required/ preferred:
High School diploma or GED
Experience:
Production work preferred but not required
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Basic knowledge and use of hand tools
Sound decision making skills
Good math, reading, writing skills
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
Mental and visual acuity for production of quality product
Strong trouble shooting skills
Skills/Competencies:
Basic computer skills - Microsoft Office package
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Other Skills:
Ability to work well in a team environment

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/ SCOPE:
Report directly to Value Stream Team Leader
Work closely with Maintenance to resolve issues with the equipment.

Steel toed shoes Standing is required for extended periods of time. Stooping, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and grasping are done on a frequent basis. Climbing, carrying, kneeling, lifting, and lifting overhead are performed on an occasional basis.
Requires high degree of manual dexterity, which could be performed under restrictive conditions.
Requires flexible hours and short notice for overtime.
