About Indiana Women's Prison:
As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Indiana Women's Prison promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. The Indiana Women's Prison is maximum security Correctional facility for adult females. The Indiana Women's Prison is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Indiana Women's Prison houses special populations of female incarcerated individuals in the state, including pregnant, sick, mentally ill, youthful, elderly, and high-profile incarcerated individuals. The facility includes the Officer Breann Leath Memorial Maternal-Child Health Unit, which encourages the preservation of family by allowing incarcerated mothers to stay with their children and offering education and resources to support successful re-entry. The facility also offers resources and treatment geared toward mental health, substance use and domestic abuse, along with multiple educational opportunities. The goal is that through treatment and rehabilitation geared toward everyone, the facility will help prepare incarcerated women to re-enter their community with more skills and confidence than when they arrived.
Role Overview: ?
As a Correctional Lieutenant at the Indiana Women's Prison , you will be responsible for the emergency preparedness and response training of the various Indiana Department of Correction teams. You will be responsible for the management, supervision, and safety of the facility, incarcerated individuals, coworkers, and the general public. In addition, you must apply the IDOC and facility rules, policies, and procedures in a firm, fair, and consistent manner to both incarcerated individuals and subordinate staff. Work is diverse and varied. You must remain vigilant to all breaches of security and threats. In the event of an emergency, effective leadership must be immediately exhibited.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Oversee daily inspections of the units.
Track all incidents, properly vet, and report all incidents to the Operations Center.
Lead assigned staff in maintaining the security and safety of offenders, buildings, and grounds.
Follow all policies and procedures related to facility's operations and emergency preparedness.
Provide input to supervisors on staff assignments, performance, corrective actions, and specific security issues with potential resolutions.
Assist in identifying offender treatment needs and support programs for treatment and rehabilitation which may include encouraging offenders to accept professional assistance and treatment from staff as needed.
Direct staff regarding the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility.
Act as shift supervisor directing and coordinating daily operations utilizing a team of Correctional Sergeants and Officers.
Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

You must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:
Ability to successfully complete all mandatory training including?the DOC Supervisory Training Program, First Aid, and CPR courses.
A degree is not required. However, a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and at least 3+ years of experience in corrections, law enforcement or military law enforcement and 1 year experience as a correctional supervisory or supervisory training in related field applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
