Job Title: Front Desk Attendant
ANTICIPATED STARTING SALARY: $33,280 to $46,172 Actual compensation will be DOE/DOQ.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Front Desk Attendant for the Town of Wytheville encompasses a broad
spectrum of duties as a guest services associate, receptionist, and clerical assistant to support the
Department of Parks and Recreation. Responsibilities include answering telephones, greeting visitors,
typing, filing, copying, processing mail, preparing marketing materials, and providing information. The
primary focus for the attendant is to serve as the receptionist by welcoming patrons and visitors,
addressing customer inquiries, answering telephones, transferring calls as necessary, and disseminating
information. Perform guest services associate duties, which involve registering program participants,
selling pass plans, managing client facility rental reservations, ensuring the accurate completion of
participant forms, collecting fees, issuing receipts, and preparing daily accounting paperwork, including
General Ledger, Cash Balance, and deposit forms, while also closing out the cash drawer daily. Maintain
accurate records promptly and complete reports using both paper and department software for
recordkeeping. Associate will also be responsible for opening and/or closing the facility during assigned
timeframes.

ENTRY LEVEL REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED
equivalent required. A minimum of one (1) year of experience in general office practices. An equivalent
combination of education and experience will be considered. A valid state drivers license or the ability to
obtain one is required. Possession of valid First Aid and CPR certification required.
Must have the below basic knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Ability to work a varied schedule, occasionally outside of standard working hours, as required.
Experience in general office practices, including office reception, filing, general recordkeeping,
processing payments and receipts, and marketing or public relations.
Ability to use necessary equipment required to provide service included but not limited to standard
office equipment, copier and scanner, and other basic office equipment.

GENERAL PURPOSE

extensive public interaction, necessitating a high level of tact and diplomacy. Performance is
evaluated through observation and the results achieved. The primary focus for the Associate is

answering telephones, providing assistance, transferring calls as necessary, and disseminating

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This role functions under the direct supervision of the Services Coordinator and indirect
supervision of the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation, who reports to the Director of
Parks and Recreation.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitors participants use of facilities and program areas and enforces recreation and safety
rules and regulations, always adhering to safety protocols.
Assists in promoting interest and providing information to the public regarding activities and
programs for assigned area(s).
Provides input regarding continued development of program to supervisor, works with other
departments and agencies as assigned from supervisor.
Communicates official plans and procedures to the public when leading programming. Maintains
harmony among participants and resolves issues or communicates them to immediate
supervisor or Department leadership if needed. Assists to resolve any issues and/or
complaints, working collaboratively with leadership as may be necessary.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED equivalent is required.
A minimum of one year of experience in general office practices, including office reception,
typing, filing, general recordkeeping, processing payments and receipts, and/or experience in
marketing or public relations. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be

first aid certification. Flexibility to work a varied schedule, occasionally outside of standard
working hours, as required.
