The Electronics Engineer Team Lead will oversee a small team responsible for the development, integration, and testing of advanced electronics hardware systems. This position requires a deep understanding of embedded systems and hardware supporting defense systems and vehicle platforms. In addition to technical leadership, the role provides direct supervision and career development to 2-7 direct reports, supporting performance management, mentoring, and process development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS: Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Leadership
Manage performance, development, and goal setting of direct reports
Mentor and develop technical capabilities within the team
Assist with employee retention and recruitment
Assist with budget and department goal setting
Defense Electronics Technical Leadership
Lead the technical execution of mechatronic and embedded systems including component selection, system architecture, control methods
Estimates effort and identifies required skillsets
Coordinates with cross functional project leads to ensure project success
Defines system architecture and functionality
Ensures compliance with industry and program-specific requirements
Support customer interactions, technical reviews, and proposal efforts
Create and approve engineering drawings, schematics, ICD's and specifications
Develop new processes and engineering tools
System Hardware Integration
Troubleshoot and resolve electrical system issues
Communicate mechanical requirements of system including cable routings, thermal management and hardware packaging to design staff
Identify and communicate controller I/O requirements to controls staff
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
BS or MS in Automotive, Mechanical, Computer, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronic Systems.
Minimum 6+ years of engineering experience.
DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
High Voltage system design and hardware development experience
Motors, inverters, DCDC Converters, Batteries
High Voltage Safety Design Requirements and Procedures
SAE Standards: J1673, J2344, J2929
Communication protocols: CAN, LIN, SPI, J1939, Wireless 802.11, Ethernet, EtherCAT
Proficiency in engineering software tools such as:
CAD tools: Creo/Windchill
Schematic/Harness Design: Vesys, Capital, Zuken
PCB Design: KiCAD, Eagle
Network debug tools: Kvaser, Vector CANalyzer or CANoe
Printed Circuit Board design experience
Wire harness and cabling design experience
Vehicle and system troubleshooting experience
Proven ability to motivate, inspire, develop personnel
Expertise in specific areas such as:
Electrical and Hybrid vehicle systems
Weapon Systems
Combat Vehicle Engineering
Fire Control Systems
Turrets and Ammo Handling Systems
Knowledge of MIL Standards for electronics
MIL-HDBK-1857, -4548, -454B
MIL-STD-464, -461, -1275
MIL-spec Connection systems: MIL-DTL-38999, -5015
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Position requires light physical activity.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
Daytime schedule Monday - Friday with infrequent night/weekend work to achieve deadlines.
Occasional travel as required for on-site customer work.
Pay Range:
$104,100.00 - $173,900.00
The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
