Justice Fellow, Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection - Georgetown University
The Justice Fellow is a recent law school graduate who works at the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection (ICAP) as an integral part of the ICAP team. The Justice Fellow works with other ICAP attorneys to drive results in complex, fast-moving litigation in defense of key constitutional rights and values and to support ICAP's related policy efforts. The Justice Fellow supports the full range of ICAP's work, including helping to support ICAP's constitutional impact litigation practicum each semester.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Conduct legal research and analysis in support of ICAP's litigation and policy priorities.
Identify opportunities for ICAP to participate in litigation in defense of constitutional rights and values.
Draft legal memos, briefs, and policy documents, in collaboration with other ICAP attorneys.
Assist in mooting advocates presenting and arguing cases and argue cases at the trial court and appellate level, when appropriate.
Participate and assist with ICAP's convenings with external partners and other events.
Help oversee student work as part of ICAP's constitutional impact litigation practicum.
Other projects as assigned.
Work Interactions
The Justice Fellow reports directly to ICAP's Executive Director and works closely with the entire ICAP team. The Justice Fellow also interacts with students, including those in ICAP's practicum course, faculty and support offices on the Law Center's campus, and external partners and stakeholders.
Requirements and Qualifications
This position is open to individuals with a J.D. Excellent research and legal writing skills required. Ability to operate professionally in interactions with academic and other stakeholders required. Ability to work well as part of a small team and supervise student work in a professional manner also required.
Relevant coursework or other experience in constitutional law and/or complex litigation preferred.
