SCHEDULE: On-site (Customer site, 3 days per week). 20% travel.

Job Description:

The Mechanical Engineer will design automated packaging, sortation, and labeling machinery that enables faster and more efficient delivery operations. This role owns mechanical system design from concept through deployment, with a focus on automation, manufacturability, and continuous improvement.

The engineer will independently design parts, assemblies, and subsystems; validate solutions through analysis and laboratory testing; and support proto@type builds and field deployment.

Lead the mechanical design of automated packaging, sortation, and labeling platforms.

Provide technical ownership of mechanical systems and drive continuous refinement of automation platforms.

Design custom mechanical components, assemblies, structural frames, and sheet metal parts for automated machinery.

Integrate sensors, actuators, pneumatics, motion systems, and controls hardware into mechanical designs.

Develop functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.

Perform engineering analyses including load calculations, FEA, tolerance analysis, and failure mode prediction.

Validate designs through CAD, simulation, prototyping, and lab-based test execution.

Partner with Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, packaging designers, and materials teams to complete system-level designs.

Support build, debug, and deployment of machines; contribute to continuous improvement of flagship automation platforms.

Create and refine test fixtures to support proto@type testing and functional evaluation.

Ensure equipment is optimized for cost, manufacturability, sustainability, and lifecycle efficiency.

MUST HAVES:

BS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering required.

8+ years of mechanical design experience in industrial automation, packaging machinery, robotics, or machine-building environments.

Strong proficiency in 3D CAD and simulation tools (SolidWorks, Ansys, Creo, Catia)

Experience designing custom mechanical components, automated machine assemblies, sheet metal components, injection-molded components and/or large systems or mechanical subsystems

Strong bckgrnd in machine systems, robotics systems, and mechatronics

Demonstrated ability to independently design, analyze, validate, and iterate mechanical solutions.

Understanding of mechanical failure points and the ability to design robustly before prototyping.

Experience with integration of sensors, actuators, and control hardware.

Strong bckgrnd in functional specifications, design verification, and functional test development.

Ability to work cross-functionally with electrical, controls, and manufacturing teams.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS:

SolidWorks is preferred

This is a Contract position based out of Westborough, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $59.80 - $62.41/hr.
