Job Description
Join Avista as a Mechanical Engineer and carry out assignments related to our power generation facilities, supporting systems, and the company's critical infrastructure. This position will perform engineering work which requires broad technical abilities as well as originality, innovative thinking, and collaborative problem solving on projects that will include hydro and thermal generating units, associated supporting equipment and systems. The successful candidate is expected to work with engineering peers and project stakeholders in a collaborative learning manner to foster growth and development of individuals, programs, and the company. There is the potential for involvement with innovative projects to enhance our generation facilities using state of the art and state of the practice techniques and methodologies. Requires constant collaboration on multi-functional project teams to assist in the successful completion of projects which enhance the value of energy generation and delivery for our customers.
Moderate amounts of in-service travel and overnight stays for work duties are necessary as part of this position. Work locations are a combination of in office, in the field at Avista's generating facilities, and work-from-home.
Responsibilities
Interface with plant operations and maintenance personnel to investigate and troubleshoot issues that may arise.
Develop or contribute to mechanical designs and construction details while managing and supporting outside design consultants as necessary.
Work duties will encompass a broad range of mechanical engineering aspects to support engineering design and analysis as well as providing field engineering support of construction activities for both capital improvement and maintenance projects.
Provide on-site field engineering and quality control with company labor crews and contractors while construction is in progress.
Document equipment standards and assist in the development of material and design standards to support project work.
Assignments may involve specification writing, statement of work development, mechanical design support, material stress analysis, 3D modeling, root cause analyses, hydraulic and thermal turbine generating unit design oversight, factory quality assurance inspection of purchased equipment and varied mechanical support on an on-going basis.
Create or inform operations procedures and maintenance practices, as necessary, when the project is complete.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited Engineering Program
Effective and flexible communication skills
Ability to travel overnight and work at remote locations when needed
Generation Facility experience is a plus
Assistant Engineer:
Minimum of one year of engineering work experience required
Hiring Range: $77,595 to $100,486
Associate Engineer:
Minimum of two years of engineering work experience required
Hiring Range: $88,336 to $114,838
Engineer:
Minimum of four years engineering work experience required
Hiring Range: $100,378 to $131,496
Senior Engineer:
Minimum of six years engineering work experience required
Demonstrated skills illustrating use of productivity, presentation, and analytical tools specific to area of expertise
Demonstrated technical leadership within engineering
Demonstrated positive and effective working relationships with internal and external parties
Specialty technical proficiency, project leadership, and ability to be self-directed
Hiring Range: $114,207 to $150,183
Other combinations of experience, training, and education may be considered.
Hybrid work options are available for this role. The successful candidate will be required to work at our Spokane, Washington headquarters at least 3 days per week including Mondays and Tuesdays with additional day(s) determined by the manager.

In compliance with state laws, we provide the full salary range for each position, along with the typical hiring range based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
