Job Description
The TRIO SSS Program Advisor at Minneapolis College serves as a member of a professional team providing comprehensive and intrusive academic, financial, career, and transfer advising services to increase persistence, completion and transfer success for students who are first-generation, low-income, or have a disability. The TRIO SSS Program Advisor maintains a caseload of assigned participants and delivers consistent monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on participants' academic progress. TRIO SSS Program Advisors' work contributes to and serves as a model for eliminating educational equity gaps and developing a more culturally competent, service-orientated institutional culture. TRIO SSS Program Advisors work collaboratively with student affairs departments, faculty and administration to meet the strategic goals of the department, division and institution.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Provide holistic and educational academic, financial, career and transfer advising and support to new and returning TRIO SSS students.
Develop and maintain on-going advising relationships with students and help students overcome barriers by utilizing knowledge of effective retention strategies and resources.
Effectively interpret and communicate policies and procedures related to academic, financial and enrollment functions and connect students to appropriate campus resources.
Support new and returning TRIO SSS students in the use of financial aid resources and completing the financial aid application (FAFSA) and financial aid verification process.
Advising students on policies such as satisfactory academic progress, maximum timeframe and other policies where academic planning and achievement directly contribute to aid eligibility.
Lead projects and initiatives related to academics, financial aid, financial literacy, transfer, career and cultural exploration, in conjunction with the Director that will meet TRIO grant objectives related to persistent enrollment, completion, and transfer.
Salary Range:
MnSCU Academic Professional 2: $25.67 - $37.26 hourly / $53,599 - $77,799 annually
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education, Counseling and Student Personnel Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Organizational Management, Liberal Arts or related degree area.
Experience working with students who are TRIO eligible, or from diverse ethnic backgrounds, or non-traditional aged students.
Demonstrated understanding of student development needs, the mission and philosophy of TRIO programs.
Strong public relations, presentation and interpersonal communication and writing skills.
Demonstrated self-starter with strong organizational and leadership skills.
Proficient and efficient at using computer technology including internet and Microsoft Office.
Demonstrates an ongoing understanding of cultural fluency. Incorporates culturally responsive practices, and actively engages in antiracism professional development learning opportunities.
Preferred Qualification
Master's degree.
Experience working in a higher education setting providing academic advising, or counseling in a TRIO program or similar program.
Experience creating and developing career and degree plans.
Experience assisting students with career exploration and the financial aid process. Experience creating academic, career or financial literacy workshops.
Experience in student services or related area.
Other Requirement
Current and former employees must be in good standing with Minneapolis College to be considered for the position.
Work Shift
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Telework
This position may be eligible for partial telework per the Minneapolis College's Telework Guidelines.
