Summary The Motor Vehicle Operator is assigned to the Transportation Section of Facilities Management Service (FMS) at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System based in Gainesville, Florida. The position operates a variety of motor vehicles to transport patients, staff, and cargo, performs pre-trip inspections, maintains vehicle cleanliness, and records trip-related data. Responsibilities Major duties and responsibilities include: Transports passengers via assigned vehicles; Performs pre-trip vehicle inspections; Ensures vehicle cleanliness; Records trip and passenger-related data; Operates various motor vehicles for passenger and cargo transport; Drives passenger buses, golf carts, trams, food delivery vehicles, laundry delivery vehicles, and ambulances/patient transport vehicles; Conducts both scheduled and unscheduled trips; Provides transportation services across multiple medical centers, outpatient clinics, and community-based outpatient clinics; Assists the Motor Vehicle Operator Supervisor with all aspects of transportation operations; Receives daily transportation dispatch orders from the Supervisor and Transportation Assistants (Dispatcher); Follows established procedures, policies, and supervisor guidance to support facility transportation needs' Performing related duties as assigned. Qualifications Commercial Driver's License: Incumbent must possess a State Operator's Permit and at minimum a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and with no air brake restrictions. List State and Drivers License number in resume. PHYSICAL EFFORT: As a Motor Vehicle Operator, the incumbent must use sound judgment; maintain mental and physical poise. Incumbent must handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally more with assistance. Incumbent may assist on an infrequent basis, medical personnel or staff in the transfer of litter patients to and from beds and litters, and the loading and unloading of patients to and from litter vans. Tasks often require physical exertion such as walking, turning, stooping, bending, etc. WORK CONDITIONS: Administrative functions are generally performed in the office. A substantial portion of daily activity involves the transporting of passengers/ patients. Incumbent is exposed to weather conditions and the possibility of cuts, bruises, strains, sprains etc. Work areas may be dusty and or dirty.
