Animal Care and Protective Services is actively seeking a Social Media Marketing Coordinator.

This is paraprofessional work at a lead worker level in coordinating various activities relating to animal placement programs including delivering messages through social media, and participating in the handling, and technical veterinary care of animals. Work requires knowledge of applicable laws, techniques, methods, and procedures used in governing animal care and control which involves the use of specialized skills which are acquired through a combination of training and considerable on the job experience. Contacts require skills in understanding, influencing, and communicating with others in order to successfully interact with employees and the public. Skills of persuasiveness, assertiveness, and sensitivity to others point of view are often required to influence behavior, change an opinion, or turn a situation around. The work is semi-routine in that tasks are covered by procedures or precedents, but some latitude is permitted to consider the most appropriate method, technique, or procedure to follow. The work involves differing situations requiring use of judgment in search for solutions or new applications within ones' known experiences. Work is performed in an office, kennel, and field environment where there are some risks and hazards due to the handling of animals, but the hazards are known, somewhat predictable and mostly controllable. Schedule will involve working flex hours, weekends, and evenings. The physical demands are moderate and consist of lifting animals and supplies weighing more than 50 pounds. Operates standard office equipment such as personal computer. Operates a motor vehicle. The work is performed under general supervision where the work assignments are varied, and the worker is permitted some latitude to set own priority subject to supervisor's approval.
Examples of Work
Coordinates various activities and programs relating to animal placement.
Coordinates the selection, placement, and transport of animals by pet placement partners.
Evaluates applications submitted to the division by pet placement partners for accuracy and completeness.
Makes recommendations to supervisory and management staff regarding pet placement partner application decisions.
Ensures that all necessary paperwork is obtained at the time of animal transfer, contractual terms are met, and transfer records are accurately documented.
Seeks out and recruits new pet placement partners locally and outside of the Jacksonville area.
Maintains and routinely updates records of pet placement partners approved to accept animal transfers from the division.
Maintains computerized records documenting adoptions, animal placement, conversations with animal welfare organizations, animal health issues or other topics as required by policy.
Works with animal behavior coordinators and veterinary staff to obtain accurate behavior and medical information to present to pet placement partners.
Provides customer assistance and responds to customer, foster volunteer, and pet placement partner questions via phone, email, social media, and MyJax complaints.
Enters and retrieves data on animals housed at ACPS.
Performs euthanasia as taught by the FACA (Florida Animal Control Association) approved class and in compliance with the ACPS euthanasia protocol.
Retrieves and places animals in appropriate areas for holding period, redemption, transfer, playgroup, medical examination, etc.
Collects redemption and adoption fees and maintains records of monies collected and is responsible for balancing daily revenue reports with deposits.
Reports to work location during emergency circumstances such as actual and anticipated natural and man-made disasters.
Transports animals to offsite locations.
Attends meetings and events as required.
Operates standard office equipment such as personal computers using word, spreadsheet, database, and other related software.
Operates a motor vehicle.
Uses shelter Facebook and Instagram accounts to showcase dogs and cats in need of adoption or special promotion
Works closely with volunteers and staff to delegate and curate animal photos, videos, and biographies
Strategically schedules posts on current social platforms for optimum engagement
Builds presence on new social media platforms
Writes and edits captions for digital media as well as for in-shelter signage
Brainstorms ideas for content and delegates related tasks when appropriate
Engages in dialog with community members and other city departments
Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville's competencies.
Performs related work as required.

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information
Two (2) years of education and/or experience in customer service or program coordination with at least one year of working in an animal hospital, shelter, or related animal facility.
Experience in Microsoft Suite, social media networks, social media marketing, and management tools.
Degree in English, Creative Writing, marketing, Communications, or related field is preferred.
PROMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
All permanent employees who have serviced one year in the class of Animal Adoption Assistant may apply and who meet the open requirements.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
Euthanasia Technician Certification must be obtained prior to completion of probation and must be maintained.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license during employment in this class.
Must qualify for, obtain, and maintain a City of Jacksonville public driver certification for employment in this class.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
The probation period for this class is six months.
This classification performs safety-sensitive functions and is subject to pre-employment, random and other drug/alcohol testing programs as set forth in the City of Jacksonville's Drug Free Workplace Policy (0401).
ACPS is part of the City of Jacksonville's emergency response operations. When pet friendly emergency shelters are open, all full-time employees are required to report and carry out duties as assigned for the duration of the emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.
