Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Manager, the selected candidate will be the principle administrative support person in the park office, involved in every aspect of the operation of the park office and revenue collection locations. This includes the following:- Prepare daily/weekly attendance and revenue reports, expenditure records, and payroll- Ensure purchase requisitions are completed in a timely manner- Ensure Park permit inquiries are being responded to and permits are issued in a timely manner - Conduct audits, prepare employee paperwork, train and supervise cashiers, revenue and office staff. - Answer telephones, file, monitor radio communications and provide information to visitors. - Manage gift shop inventory, tracking sales and ordering merchandise as needed- Monitor inventory and requisitions materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.- Write letters and prepare other documents for internal and external communications. - Order and maintain office supplies. - Assign, supervise, review, train and evaluate work of lower-level employees.- Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices- Assist and direct staff and work with patrons to minimize potential problems. - Assist with large event and concert operations including staffing of revenue collection points and traffic control.
Minimum Qualifications NY HELPS or 55-b/c Qualifications: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:Either 1. four years of experience in the construction, operation, or maintenance of a park, recreational facility, or campus;* one year of this experience must be at a supervisory level;Or 2. an associate's or higher level degree or 60 college semester credit hours AND two years as described in No. 1 above; one year of this experience must be at a supervisory level.For the purposes of this examination a park, recreational facility, or campus is defined as a location that offers at least three of the following elements: athletic fields, skating rink, campgrounds, golf courses, hiking trails, historic structures, marinas, picnic areas, playgrounds, recreation programs, swimming facilities or education, environmental or interpretive programming.If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.**Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. You must pay the required evaluation fee.ELIGIBLE LIST QUALIFICATIONS:Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list.REASSIGNMENT QUALIFICATIONS:Candidates must be current New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation employees and have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Park Supervisor 2 to be eligible for reassignment.52.7 NON-COMPETITIVE PROMOTION (NCP) QUALIFICATIONS:As required by the New York State Department of Civil Service, we are posting for this position to determine if there are any qualified OPRHP employees interested in a permanent appointment to the position. If there are three or fewer qualified candidates interested in the position who meet the promotion minimum qualifications, a permanent appointment can be made pursuant to Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. The minimum qualifications for the NCP appointment are: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/55c service as a Park Supervisor 1.Note: Non-competitive refers to not competing in an examination; the appointment will be competitive.It is essential that candidates clearly and concisely indicate exactly how they meet the above minimum qualifications in their resume. Failure to show how you meet the minimum qualifications above may result in disqualification and removal from consideration.Employees appointed via the NY HELPS program are restricted for promotional appointment until their position is covered-in to the competitive class by the New York State Civil Service Commission (CSC), or they otherwise obtain permanent competitive status.
