This position serves our partners at the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). The MNIT DEED team provides technical support to help improve employment conditions in Minnesota. The team supports work that improves workforce and community development, increases business recruitment, and helps Minnesota small businesses to expand into international trade
As a Middleware and Cloud Systems Administrator, you will be responsible for supporting and maintaining DEED's middleware systems, cloud environments, and applications to ensure high availability and optimal performance. The role involves monitoring system health, troubleshooting complex issues, and implementing configuration changes to meet evolving business and technical needs. The engineer will install and update applications, manage middleware components, and manage cloud automation processes. Collaboration with architects and developers is essential for coordinating production builds and deployments. The position also provides primary support for a designated set of applications while serving as a backup for other team members through cross-training. Strong expertise in middleware technologies, cloud platforms, system administration, and problem resolution across servers, networks, cloud infrastructure, and security systems is required.
This position requires rotating on-call weekend/night support.
This position requires an employee to be onsite at 180 E 6th St, St Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of IT related experience in Windows/Linux server administration in virtual environment in the cloud.
Experience must include:
Network and firewall configuration and maintenance
AWS/Azure Cloud administration.
Knowledge of scripting languages like PowerShell, Bash.
Knowledge of automation and configuration tools like Terraform, Ansible and PowerShell DSC.
Windows and Linux server administration.
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner that facilitates mutual understanding.
Customer-focused approach grounded in active listening, empathy, and solution-oriented problem-solving to deliver positive user experiences.
Education in Information Technology (IT) or an IT related field may substitute for experience as follows: a master's degree for eighteen (18) months of experience; a bachelor's degree for one (1) year; and an associate's degree for six (6) months.
Strongly Preferred Qualifications
Experience creating Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) Pipelines with GitHub Actions.
Experience with source control systems like Git and/or Azure DevOps.
IIS and WebSphere administration.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of programming languages like Java, .NET.
Experience with cloud based web application firewalls (WAF) and load balancing.
Experience with Markdown for creating and maintaining service/configuration documentation.
